Barack Obama takes heat for 'lipstick on a pig' remark about McCain

Now it's getting really dirty.

The road to the White House turned into a mud pit Tuesday as a John McCain ad claimed Barack Obama wanted to teach sex education to 5-year-olds, while Obama accused McCain and Sarah Palin of trying to "put lipstick on a pig."

At a campaign event in Virginia, Obama mocked McCain and his running mate for their effort to co-opt his campaign's "change" mantra."

"You can put lipstick on a pig," Obama said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."

Though Obama prefaced the "lipstick" jab by referring to the GOP ticket's political positions, Republicans charged it was a thinly disguised slam on Palin, who famously described herself as a hard-charging hockey mom during her GOP convention speech last week.

"The difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull?" she joked. "Lipstick!"

McCain-Palin spokeswoman Maria Comella said, "Barack Obama's comments today are offensive and disgraceful. He owes Gov. Palin an apology."

The Obama camp maintained it was no personal insult at Palin - just the use of a common expression to suggest the McCain-Palin ticket was trying to dress up bad policy. They circulated quotes in which McCain used the "lipstick on a pig" line to attack a Hillary Clinton health care plan.

Meanwhile, Team McCain slimed Obama in a new 30-second ad.

The spot portrays Obama as a lightweight on education reform, saying his one accomplishment is legislation to teach "comprehensive sex education" to kindergartners.

"Learning about sex before learning to read?" the ad intones. "Barack Obama. Wrong on education. Wrong for your family."

But as the McCain camp's documentation noted, Obama said he backed the legislation as a state senator for "age-appropriate" instruction to teach young children how to protect themselves from pedophiles.

Obama, addressing the issue in his 2004 U.S. Senate race, said, "I have family members as well as friends who suffered abuse at that age."

Tuesday night, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said, "It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls.

"Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn't define what honor was. Now we know why."

The nastiest exchanges of the campaign came as both candidates prepare for a solemn joint appearance at Ground Zero tommorrow to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

I don’t think Obama necessarily meant it toward Palin.. but it’s fair game. It’s about as fair as the DNC saying McCain wanted to stay in Iraq for 100 years, and the exploitation of the “5-million dollars is rich” gaffe.. both of which were complete distortions of what McCain actually said.

If Obama can throw mud, he should be prepared to take it as well.

I just heard on the radio McCain saying the same exact words against Hillary.

I think it is a little bit different than McCain and Hillary, given the race dynamic. A black person calling a white person a pig is a bit like a white person calling a black person a monkey.

Your playing the race card?

Holy crapoziod!

Same shit.

Yeah, I just saw that on the news. Obama's just not good on his feet.. but he's too smart to intentionally call her a pig.

This keeps Obama on defense: he has to deal with this now instead of attacking back & probably gets them even more nervous about attacking Palin.

It was just a stupid mistake, but it's going to cost him at least time & energy.. both of which he's running out of.

He talks real good when he has a teleprompter. "JUST WORDS!?!"

I guarantee you someone on the Obama side stayed up late trying to find a save, and shit a brick when they found that video of McCain.

Did you know Obama has 30 attorneys in Alaska right now trying to dig up shit on Palin?

Yeah, heard that... let them dig. When they come up empty we can look forward to her at the top of the presidential ticket in the future. :thumb:

The choice for Palin was a good one, it looks like it shook him up a bit.

The real gaffe people should be talking about is Biden saying if Palin really cared about special needs children, then she'd support stem-cell research.

Now that was a terrible thing to say.

This is ridiculous, does neither candidate have anything to say on the issues that every day one of them has to dissect every little stupid, inane comment the other makes. Jesus Christ I'm moving to Montreal.

The choice for Biden didn't really wow everybody like Palin has....it would have been really interesting if he picked Hillary.

Palin, alone with her looks would have won...

This "Lipstick on a pig" has been played over 1000 times today on the radio and TV.

first beer is on me.

You can pay for the strippers.

I don't think it's unrealistic for McCain to make the comment about Hillary. I mean, she does have a HUGE ass and all. :)

It could actually be code for "I'd Hit It". I mean, look at Michelle Obama's Ass. It's bigger than Hillary's!!

South Carolina sues Michelle Obama's Ass for blocking sunlight!
Story written: 05 September 2008

Sunlight depravation due to Obama's large ass blocking light, has caused economic hadships to farmers!

Just a few weeks ago at the annual televised 'Celebrity Judging Show', critics awarded Presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama's wife, Michelle, the coveted 'Really Big Ass of the Year Award'.

Hundreds of Hollywood's elite gathered at a star-studded ceremony held in Grummnan's Chinese Theater. A team of judges from the prestigious IPT Center announced their favorite picks in 23 differant categories.

Obama beat out a strong field of nominees including, Oprah Winfrey, Rosie O'Donnel, Michael Moore, and last year's winner, Sen. Hillary Clinton. But this week that mighty Ass-et just might be a big liability.

The State Attorney of South Carolina has filed a class action lawsuit claiming statewide crop damage to South Carolina's corn crop due to a recent visit by Michelle Obama to neighboring North Carolina's beaches.

In the lawsuit the State claims that significant amounts of sunlight were blocked by Obama's very large ass as she sunbathed on the North Carolina beaches during a 7 day period.

The lawsuit seeks a monetary compensation to farmers and harvesters who have suffered an economic hardship.

What do you call a pig thief Frank?

A Ham-burglar. (The pig normally sqeals though)

YYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think it was spot on. sex sells and it seems to me the reason McCain chose Palin was sex appeal. who's a woman that will really give this campaign some of the Kennedy like charm Obama is getting so much attention for. McCain is a bad choice so what did they do? threw in some "lipstick" to try n make it more appealing.

Horatio is the man.:roflmao:

Again, I don't see where any comments, quotes, or implications made by either party/candidate should be considered relevant. From this point on, its going to be a mud-fest, plain and simple.

This just in...

While I do agree with your assessment that Palin does bring a level of "Sex Appeal" to the election, I would argue that there is a helluva lot more to her than just "Lipstick".

Looking at her accomplishments, she's quite a remarkable woman.

I wouldn't say McCain is necessarily a bad choice.. I actually think he's the only Republican who had any kind of chance this year.

Palin just makes the ticket more appealing to the base, and potentially women.

all Obama needs to say is McCain = More of the same. :nerd:

yes but there were probably better choices, male and female, that got overlooked cuz they wanted, and deliberately chose, someone who'd make the stir she did.

hmmm  i'm trying to figure out how to afford an apartment in Montreal next summer.
