obamas plans for more fuel efficient cars, sustainable energy and aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050 as opposed to mcains plans for offshore drilling and more nuclear power plants are something the rest of the world thanks him for. america is meant to lead the world yet that fucking wanker bush refused to sign up to the Kyoto Protocol. america claims to be the greatest nation on earth, but how can we expect developing countries like india and china to agree to thses terms when you guys wont even sign up.
Well something good and productive came out of the Bail-out plan, the Federal Government starting Jan. 1 2009 will give a tax credit of 30% towards the cost of installing an solar energy system, they had the same thing recently but it was capped at $2000 for solar electricity now that there is no cap it makes it much more enticing.....There is still a $2000 cap on Solar H2O and Geo Thermal heating but those systems rarely cost over $6000-8000 for residential installs, and for Wind and Fuel Cells there are diff. crediting amounts....these are all major steps in moving towards a cleaner future because as the demand for better technology goes up we will make better improvements....if there were no demand then who would spend money trying to improve the products? With Obama's help we may be able to start becoming a world leader and stop letting Japan and Germany show us up.....

Hawaii is already booming in the Alt Energy market, I think that by 2020 we will probably be the world leader in green energy which makes sense because it's the perfect locale for such a think....

If white people say "we now have a black president", it no doubt will cause a riff, tantrum, or outcry from black folks because it will be taken as a racist, negative comment. If black people say" we now have a black president", it is cheered and celebrated. Same sentence, same words, but blacks feel they have a right to be selective in interpretation and intent, hypocrisy at its best. Every "reality" show on tv now has a token "angry, suppressed black man" who has suffered, and struggled in today's society due to the color of his skin and the history of this country with blacks. Ya, sure, at 21 you feel the repercussions of slavery now. STFU...its always gonna be used as a crutch by those who feel the CAUCASIAN owes him something.

Watching this video of Whoopi Goldberg made me want to punch her in the face

"I can finally put my suitcase down"

Get the fuck outta here. You're famous, rich, and you're a co-host of one of the most popular shows on network TV, and you still weren't satisfied? It makes me sick.

YouTube Video

I'm happy Obama won and all but if I here anyone else saying that "the man" is holding them back, I'm going to say I totally agree that the black man in charge is holding you back and suggest that in some crazy way maybe they deserve to be held back!

If I was gay, I'd be all over you.

You wanted to punch her in the face huh? Because she made an analogy that she finally feels like she is now part of the country and not just an unwanted visitor? I despise you and mindsets like yours... She may have been rich and famous but she still felt like an outsider in her own country of birth, you know how many times I've heard black people be told to go back to Africa because they give an opinion some white person didn't agree with?

Give me a break. Black people have had equal rights in this country for quite some time now, and they bitch about race any time something doesn't go their way. There have been powerful black people in politics for decades, yet somehow unless a black person has the most powerful job in the world, they don't have equal rights-riiight.

People like you make me sick. You perpetuate racism with your incessant bitching and moaning about how blacks are mistreated despite the fact that we've had blacks in positions of power for decades.

Honestly, I feel as though it's a bitter sweet victory for civil rights. The fact of the matter is that any plausible democrat ticket would have won this race. If this were 2000 or 2004, Obama wouldn't have had a shot in hell. Not to rain on his parade, but it's the truth.

Equal, my ass.

There are crimes that whites can be charged with but they can't (hate crimes).

It's easier for them to get a business or a school loan.

After the LA riots, the usual construction crews that the city used were called in (white owned, but with plenty of minorities on the payroll). The blacks complained that, since the neighborhoods that were destroyed were predominantly black, they should use black owned construction companies. Which happened. Imagine what would happen if whites insisted that only white owned companies worked in white neighborhood.

Blacks can have organizations that whites can't. There are all black television stations, college funds, and award ceremonies, to name a few.

Now, tell me again how things are equal?

I think my racism may be getting fixed.

Manic wasn't talking about legal rights. He wasn't talking about racial discrimination. He was talking about an attitude.

There is a lot of hatred towards minorities by whites. It is also true the other way around. There is racism on both fronts. However blacks are outnumbered right now by whites. The feeling, the attitude, Whoopi Goldberg was talking about was that when whites went out and voted for Obama, it made her feel like that racism is dying out.

You know, the feeling of being welcomed doesn't just mean having equal rights. Feeling welcomed comes from a sense of love and brotherhood.

Imagine you were at a party. At this party nobody harassed you, because it was one of the rules at the party. However, nobody would talk to you. Everyone ignored you and made you feel liek you weren't welcomed there. Would you feel like staying at that party? I knwo it is a simply analogy, but that is the essance of what Whoopi Goldberg was saying.

She was saying that when whites and blacks went out and voted for a black man, that she was finally united with her white bothers and sisters. She feels welcomed now. Well, that is how a lot of minorities feel right now. They feel welcomed. They feel like this is a place the can make a home.

I fucking love it and here is why. Now black people and other minorities can pull their head out of their ass, and stop blaming white people for everything. This is a beautiful time to be an American. Whites can finally be done with the bullshit title of "The Oppressors", and everyone else can get off their ass and make a life for themselves.

Blacks have had power in Washington for a long time. She was complaining. I just found what she had to say a little ridiculous, although I agree with some of your thinking, not all of it.

Again, this has nothing to do with power in politics. This is about a genuine feeling that you are wanted and welcomed.

I'm staying clear of the race battle in this thread. I just wanted to clarify what Goldberg was saying. If you take it how she meant it, it is a beautiful sentiment. I seemed to hear in her statement a sense of forgiveness and acceptance of us white people, too.

You know? It almost has a ring of "Hey you know what, these white people aren't at all what I expected. I was wrong, Its time to bury the hatchet and get to work building bridged between culture and races."

That is how I saw it.

we can only hope...

The problem has been that quite of few blacks at the party instisted that the whites give them their hoer derves.

But I get the optimism that your seeing. Maybe now that shit'll go away. In my view, blacks are Americans just like me, and deserve the live at the same level. Maybe now they'll quit holding themselves back and live that way.

I'd like that, too.

well gee, maybe white people voted for Obama because in their minds he was the better candidate? Maybe it had nothing to do with his skin color? However, on the other side of the coin, it's pretty apparent that black people voted for Obama because of his skin color with little regard for his policies.

But yes, maybe this will turn out to be a good thing. If Obama stays the course and does what is in the best interests of the country as a whole, and when these black people see that they wont be getting free handouts even though their boy is the president, maybe they will change their tune to how they perceive things. They will see that it is just the system and life in general, and not white government holding them back.

Phew...Welcome back Mr. Cotter!!!!

I agree with Kelju on some points, the biggest that now blacks have no more crutch or excuses to lean on. They now have to stand on their own two feet and quit blaming the system, the whites, the USA. Should I bitch that while playing college f-ball I had to fight or my position, while the majority of my defense was black?? OR did I have to accept the fact, that just maybe they were more "qualified" at those positions?? Just because a majority is one color or another, doesnt mean its an unjust system or the deck was stacked against one particular. How many black men have run or tried to run for President before Obama...exactly, yet blacks bitched that there were no black presidents. Finally one stepped up and TRIED, instead of waiting for it to be "gifted" to him. Blacks have a tendency to think that because theya re black, things are owed and should be just handed to them, earn it for fucks sake.

It's not that anyone voted for him or why, it's that not an overwhelming voted against him that makes people so happy....

It is sad that most of you are so one sided. Blacks are obviously a problem to some of you. There is nothing that you guys are saying in this thread or any other thread that the black community or churches haven't already tried to instill in its youth.

We realize that we have some that are just looking for a free ride. I to am pissed off because of my black brothers and sisters aren't doing a damn thing to contribute to our society.

Instead of whining and bitching about what the blacks are doing try worrying about what the whites are doing because in all fairness we each have fuck ups in the white and black communities.

I talk to black youths on a regular basis trying to inform them that whites are not the reason for there failures they are. I promise each and every one of you on this forum that I will continue to work with these kids. Some have succeeded and others are still working at it and we have even lost a few, but we are trying. Now with that being said, what are you doing on the other side? If the answer is nothing, then why complain. Because now you are preaching to the choir, the people that need to hear what you are saying are certainly not on this forum.

Many people read these threads as lurkers, as long as I feel that I am putting out a positive message I will set off my beacon of light anywhere I can....
