I've had the 27'' fisher TV since 1989 and it still works like it did when I brought it brand new.
But I replaced both the boys and girls TV's with a couple of Vizeo 32'' TV's.
Amazing how lighter these TV's are, I think I have a hernia from just removing the 27" TV.

What to do with it?

Yeah, no shit my brother and I nearly killed our back carrying out a 32" Sony out of the basement. Frigging thing was awkward. It became my 2ndary TV.

Up north of the 49th, some places have recycling depot that will take electronics free of charge.

So, other options,
sell it (good cottage TV)
donate it (youth outreach center, halfway house, homeless shelter, Salvation Army/good will center, etc...) Lots of folks will take a free TV.

Good ideas, it would be a shame to just throw it away.
It was my companion for a while when I was single.

Fuuny, the wife and I are going through this dilemma, right now.

I bought a 60" Mitsubishi projection tv back in 93, when it was state of the art.

And the thing still works wonderful! Thing is, wifey sees these Hi def. t.v.'s, and the LCD's, and she wants a new one. But that is like an old friend of mine, we've been through so much together. I just can't see getting rid of the thing if it still works.

Oh god, I just realised, I sound like my old man!

I gave my 61'' RCA rear projection to my cousin....the picture wasn't that great but then again RCA's day of being good are decades away.

donate it, hopefully to a charity that will come get it.

Funny thing is, I've donated a lot of stuff to the Salvation Army and Goodwill.
From clothes, shoes, furniture, even my old Kitchen, after I remodled, and we're talking appliances and cabinates. But I just can't seem to part with that tv., strange I know.

It doesn't seem to bother me, but everyone who visits, says the same old thing. " I should get a new one". And I always say the same old thing," If you don't like my tv, buy me a new one".

Can't beat a console television. Mine doubles as an ironing board, desk and self.

The new ones have too many problems. Plasma, DLP, LCD..you'll being having something repaired on them within 2 yrs. Incredible picture though.

I heard this before. And aren't they supposed to be making models that will require less energy.

I guess when those come out, I'll make my move!

We should both go rent- a-center style. Get set up on weekly payments of $15. Tell them they can't deliver until after dark so no one will see the truck in the drive way.

you guys ever tried beating the hell out of an old tv with a baseball bat or something? oh the pleasure...

Rent a center? I was thinking of reverting back to the high school days and just making a tv run! :dont:

If the opportunity ever presented itself I wouldn't feel any regret.

Vizeos are pretty cheap I believe. Not sure about the quality though. i let you know in about 3 yrs. I'll probably get a new tube by then if my bean bags don't pop first.

Donate it to a local boys and girls club.

I volunteered.. err.. did community service at the Boys and Girls club here in Bloomington and was shocked to see some of the shit they had that I could probably have gone into my garage/storage room at home and replaced their old shitty items with less old and less shitty items.

They would use TV's for learning and not just sitting and watching cartoons as well..

Who knows, maybe you'll prevent a bus driver from being pummeled by some punk ass kid with your donation.

:haha:
