Fla. Doctor Tells Obama Voters to Go Away

Rep. Alan Grayson Says Doctor Discriminates Against Town's Black Voters

A Florida man who had been referred to specialist Dr. Jack Cassell found this sign on the doctor's office door: "If you voted for Obama, seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years."

Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora, Floida, urologist and a registered Republican posted this note: "If you voted for Obama ... seek urologic care elsewhere," outside his office.

At first, he thought it was a joke, but the receptionist assured the man, who did not want to be identified, that it was not a joke.

Now, U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., is filing a formal complaint with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Medical Board.

"A doctor takes an oath to help improve the health of patients, not just Republican patients or Democratic patients or conservatives or liberals," Grayson told ABCNews.com. "They take an oath to cure people."

"I think it's disgusting," he said. "I know that most people go into health care because they want to help sick people. They don't have some political agenda. I think it's outrageous that someone would try to press his political agenda, and deny people health care because of it."

Democrats in GOP-heavy Mount Dora -- a town of about 9,400 just 30 miles from downtown Orlando -- are largely African American, according to Grayson, so Cassell's sign may constitute illegal discrimination.

This is a load of shit. Playing the race card? Yeah, sounds like Grayson is a retard that voted for Obama.

I love it:coffee:

Typical politics. Another freedom of choice being eroded by politicians as they take over/strip freedoms one after another for their own political agenda's under the guise of something evil being perpetrated. The govt already controls banks/mortgage companies, car dealerships, CEO pay scales, health care why not the ability to tell doctors who they have to treat. I suppose next they'll be dictating who we can sell our cars, houses, radios, appliances...etc to. EBAY and Craigslist better watch out. Nothing like a swift change from Capitalism to Socialism with millions being led like lemmings to a cliff....

"A doctor takes an oath to help improve the health of patients"
Patients being the key word, the Hippocratic Oath doesn't say you have to take on everyone as a patient it just says that anyone under your care should be treated to the best of your ability. I spent a whole night studying it before confronting a doctor who refused to help me because he wasn't good enough to determine I suffered from facet joint syndrome, he's supposed to be one of the top bone docs in the state and it took a neurologist to figure out what was hurting me.....

Anyway maybe the doctor feels he won't put forth the same effort to help an Obama supporter as he would someone who isn't, that's an honest way of holding his oath. "I can't say in fair conscience I would be able to provide equal treatment to an Obama supporter, even if I tried to put it behind me the human mind works in such ways that even subliminally I could fail to do my best"

Why do they want to subject themselves to that kind of risk? I'd find it comforting to know a doctor may be prejudiced toward me so I could avoid being treated on a sub-par level...

next they'll be dictating who we can sell our houses, ..
I'm pretty sure there is already some Equal Op law saying you can't choose who buys a home based on race, creed, gender, sexual preference, etc....

This country was founded and fought for based on politics. It's ingrained in everyone's blood whether we like it or not. Although I don't approve of the doctors approach since I could be in the same boat for my political associations it's his way of disputing the outcome of the HCR passage. Not only that it was reported thousands of doctors were going to stop practicing if the HCR passed so this is only the start of a far bigger issue than one doctors sign.

And I know I sure as hell won't be buying a GM product.

no doctor should give a shit about a patient's political views or who they voted for, that is just fucking stupid!
But in the real world every human forms bias' this doctor has admitted he is biased toward Obama supporters. If these people really want to see this particular doc they can go in and not say a word about who they voted for, get their treatment and walk out. Me and one of my doctors discuss politics all the time because we have similar opinions, except for entheogens impact on the mind forever, we get along and I'm one of his favorite patients but most of the doctors I see it's strictly business in and out no small talk....

"Should" is key, unfortunately. I agree that it's incredibly stupid on a lot of levels, perhaps every level, but at least the doctor is being forthright in his (what many will perceive as) idiocy.

It's almost refreshing. No surprises this way. I mean imagine starting a doctor-patient relationship and then finding out immediately prior to some complicated procedure that your physician is a complete and utter @$$#0LE who would probably prefer you were hit by a car on some even subconscious level than do their best to help cure youl!!!

This.

Is it "right"? Probably not. Are you more than likely better off driving ten miles to another doctor? I'd say yes.

This is an angry doctor. Honestly, most docs put prejudices aside all the time. If I find myself disliking a whiney, prosthetising, religious, drug seeking a$$ hole, I look at his physical illness and problems and start going through academic excercises about his treatment, experimental data in the last phases of a clinical trial etc etc. Perhaps that is why we sometimes come off as impersonal. I would rather treat one with the opposite political and social and religious view ( which are a majority of my patients since I am an athiest, feminist in the religious south) than a pedophile for instance.....

He is violating his hypocratic oath, but like any customer service profession, I find myself more inclined to bend over backwards for a nice, non assuming, non elitist patient than someone who is dictatorial, snotty etc. , but I do treat them equally in terms of quality and standard of medical care.

He is somewhat of an idiot since urology's bread and butter is mostly elective surgeries. Most of these patients don't need him like a primary care doc. And there are many obama voters who want and can pay for elective surgeries.

They're working on that.

Obama's administration sucks RIAA cock. Which is not surprising, since most of the lawyers he has hired into his administration are ex-RIAA lawyers.

There's your change people, someone who's working hard to be even worse than Bush Jr. He denies more Freedom of Information requests than Bush. He's increasing the military presence in the Middle East. He's pushing more laws that give rights (ACTA treaty) to corporations (to make profits) as he takes them away from citizens. He even tried to prevent banks from paying back loans so that he can keep them under his thumb. He shoving his health care plan down the throats of the American public, even if they don't want it, by making back room deals to get a "win". And the list goes on.

Voting for Obama doesn't make you an idiot. Supporting him, even after he's lied and shitted all over America, does.

He's a failure as a doctor - if he's not violating the terms of his oath, he is certainly violating the spirit. He should have his license revoked.

I think he posted it to make people think....he would treat all people the same

well here's the question... if our healthcare goes national. how will it affect the drs income? this isn't about race or anything else it's about taking a baseball bat to the kneecaps in his pay more than likely.

It is stupid, but it shouldn't be unlawful. It isn't like someone has to go to that doctor or no one at all.

A bar can choose not to let a patron in because they don't like their cloths. A high school can prevent a student from entering because they think their hair is too long.

Political affiliation isn't a protected as far as I know.

TBH if I had him as a doc and read that I would not want to see him anymore. What kind of helpful doctor would he be. Would not trust him. That poster says alot about him.....

You can tell this Grayson douche he's a true blue-blood democrat. He sure didn't waist anytime pulling the race card.

I think this doc is a true patriotic american by taking a stand in this way. He is still practicing, knowing that he will probably be taking a significant cut in pay soon and have the govt breathing down his neck, telling how to run his practice. However, he is demonstrating to Obama voters the type of availability they will have once their govt healthcare is enacted.

The Obama voters deserve whatever they get. He's just giving them an early taste of the "medicine" they voted for.

And this.

People are often too quick to jump to conclusions. Myself included.

Cassell, a urologist, told the newspaper that he's not turning anyone away.

"That would be unethical," he said. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it."

A registered Republican, Cassell is providing his patients with photocopies of a health-care timeline produced by Republican leaders that outlines "major provisions" in the health care law -- and he's placed a sign above the stack of copies that reads, "This is what the morons in Washington have done to your health. Take one, read it and vote out anyone who voted for it."

Cassell told the newspaper that a patient's politics wouldn't affect his care for them, but he added he would prefer not to treat people who support Obama.

"I can at least make a point," he said.

Awesome.

Although since it appears that Obama may finally be pulling his head ever so slowly out of his ass in regards to drilling for our own oil, instead of being raped by OPEC, he may win a bit more support out of me. However, since I work in the oil industry it's in the realm of possibility that I may be slightly biased.

I though as much...:coffee:

I am chiming in late to the thread by Robert,

but this story really is NO-STORY.

This doctor only uses Cigna, and this health care bill won't affect him.

He is barely legal in what he is doing with the sign. But he isn't violating Florida state law.

Non-story created by the media.

I'm sure this guy will be made a correspondent on Fox News soon.

I think in this case, we probably need a military coup to overthrow this regime, dissolve the congress and place the USA under marshal law temporarily, until top Obama admin officials can be prosecuted and wither imprisoned at gitmo or executed. Perhaps Bush or Cheney could be in power in the interim, until the tribunals are complete. Once that's done, democracy would be restored. Unfortunately, it will probably take something this dramatic to restore the USA to a true representative republic.

Because Bush and Cheney really represented the "real" America. If you want to execute someone, execute those war criminals.

At least they wanted to destroy other countries, and not this one.

Oh, I think they did a pretty good job of doing both. I wouldn't say Obama has been a great president, but what those guys did over the course of 8 years is going to take us forever to get out of no matter who is in there. I don't look at this healthcare bill as being very good, but if we are talking which duo had a more judicious use of the country's $970 billion dollars and I think most would not look to Iraq as being the better option.
