THIS SHOULD BE POSTED IN EVERY SCHOOL AND ON EVERYBODY'S REFRIGERATOR!

Love him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this!

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world doesn't care about your
self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

If you agree, pass it on.
If you can read this -Thank a teacher!
If you can read this in English - thank a soldier!!!

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

that one is not true, nerds are not alpha enough to become leaders in the real world

not true, I am that nerd. I employ 45 employees as senior partner and about that many managing the commercial properties I own.

I also own my own bobcat, chipper, plasma welder, dozen saws and lease them to a company that tends to my properties both landscaping and handyman stuff so add another dozen or so...

big smoothy is right, bill gates did not say this

also, bill gates had the opportunity of going to a private school whose mother's had the forsight to lobby for purchase of a computer lab that rivaled most universities so by the time Bill Gates got into college he had more experience under his belt than some Bell laboratory programmers. I believe one of the other biggies either dell or whatever founders also went to the same school. Read Outliers, by malcolm gladwell.

With that said, american schools coddle children while we got beaten mercilessly back in asia. However, it is the spirit of "play", the summer vacations that allowed bill gates to spend hours tinkering away at computers and lack of 3 hour homeworks so he could "play" with computers that I think foster creativity and inventiveness. Which is why I'm not utterly smug about us Asian's achievements in science and mathmatical standardized scoring. Who cares, how many science nobel prizes have we won? Maybe about a dozen out of a population that overwhelms american population. And don't blame it entirely on communism or totalitarianism ( although it did play a role )since the russians have been doing nicely in that regard.

I would also like to highlight the fact that these are all men!

I was on the mathletes, I was always entering science fairs, I was on the science and math club in high school, I was a research chemist, I doubled majored in chemistry and mathmatics with a 3.89 . I would rather read a book on quantum physics than pump weights, I now do clinical research, I am a nerd and proud of it. I just happen to be a nerd that can pound you in the dust on a 24 hour mountain bike race.

I suggest you show just a litle respect for your female board members. Not only have they forgot more than you will ever know, it just plain makes you look stupid to argue with them.

Nerds designed the vehicle you drive. Nerds also did all the programming for the electronics. Nerds made the high definition tv you enjoy. The people promoted to the top of the companies that do such things? Nerds.

The nerds that make their way to the top are the ones that adapt to new situations. The ones that don't are too specialized or they simply don't want the extra responsibility a promotion would entail.

The alpha males have no real intelligence advantage over anybody else. They just have the unending desire to be the top dog and will do anything to get there.
