The question is what is the proper dosage of epa/dha if you are on roids or anti-estrogens. Why? Please read-on.
From what I have read the normal daily dosage is 3 grams of total epa/dha as mentioned by Marat. 4 - 5 grams is suggested if you have high levels of triglycerides (for whatever reason) in your blood.
One important thing to note is that HDL cholesterol (The Healthy Cholesterol) helps to maintain the triglyceride and LDL cholesterol (The Bad Cholesterol) levels low. Fish oils or epa/dha help to increase your HDL Cholesterol which in turn reduces the amount of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol in your blood. If the trigylcerides and LDL levels cannot be kept low it can subsequently lead to some form of heart disease at a much younger age.
Sorry for the boring breakdown if you already knew the details of the cholesterol/triglycerides, but my doctor just explained this to me after reviewing my blood analysis with me and it is a direct reference to the following questions.
Some roids have a negative effect on your HDL cholesterol by destroying it which in turn negatively effects your LDL/triglyceride levels. Which roids? I am not sure and I would like to find out.
Anti-Estrogens and/or Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs) also contribute to the low levels of HDL cholesterol because estrogen aids in increased production of HDL cholesterol and if you consume reducing/blocking estrogen substances you will hinder your body's ability to naturally increase your HDL levels.
After reviewing my blood work with my doctor I wasn't surprised to see that my HDL level was almost zero and these were the scientific explanations given to me after I mentioned that I had been on supplement cycles of ProHormones (Incredi-bulk by SSL Labs), Nolva and Clomid for about a year. Naturally I asked how much more than the normal dosage of fish oil do I need to take to counter the effects of the roids and the AIs, but the doc did not know.
Anyone have any input/ideas?
