If you didn't already know, read or witness on TV, Fedor getting dominated in the second round by BigFoot Silva, resulting in a medical doc stoppage, the news gets even more juicy. It was Fedor who called conceded the fight, not the doctor who called it.

the original source is a famous russian sports website

http://www.sports.ru...g/78148875.html

??àíèòàð ïîåäèíêà ??ìåëüÿíåíêî – ??èëâà: «Ïîñëå âòîðîãî ðàóíäà ??åäîð ñêàçàë: «?? íå ìîãó ïðîäîëæàòü áîé» - Áîêñ/MMA - Sports.ru

Here is the translation:

Fedor Emelianenko, who because of the strong bruising to his right eye could not continue after the second round bout against Antonio Silva, was ready to stop fighting.

The correspondent of newspaper "Sport Express" met after the battle at the hotel with the nurse, which helped Fyodor first aid.

"The doctor asked the soldier:" Fyodor, you can go? "- He said. But Fyodor shook his head and replied: "No, I can not."

See he's not a machine. He's a man!

I dont understand what people want from fighters. They are just like any athelete on earth. They grow as a fighter, hit their prime, then they decline. Fedor was the best in the world for 10 + years. I think people expect him to be on top forever. All great champions lose. Matt Hughes. Chuck Lidell. Randy Couture. These guys dominated the sport for a number of years each. Now look at them. One day Anderson Silva will lose and the next guy will fall in line.
Ill tell you one thing. Johnny bones Jones is the future of light heavy in the UFC. Mark my words.

I also want to add that Fedor was a Grand Prix champion for many years. Whole different ballgame.

How can you say that when he didn't fight UFC's best HW? I love how people just say Fedor was the best fighter, blah blah blah. Yet he didn't fight in the UFC (the top MMA organization right now). IMO, he cannot be the said "best fighter in the world".

Difference between a fighter and an athlete. Both can be good, but fighters area always more entertaining.

See the upcoming Fitch vs. Penn fight.

But in any case, for this topic, I dont know if your post is in direction of mine, but no matter what anyone says, we dont know who couldve won that fight. Silva was winning, sure. Buuuuut so was Sonnen with A. Silva, Le with Smith, and well, Arlovski, Nogeira, and Arona, with Fedor.

But Anderson Silva wasn't handicapped with one functioning eye in the later rounds. Fedor wasn't doing too well with two functioning eyes, let alone one eye, which removes his depth perception. Good luck landing punches on someone with a 7 inch reach advantage when you can't gauge distance. It wasn't like Fedor's eye was sort of swollen and he was squinting out of it, that thing was CLOSED.

The stand up is where Fedor was anywhere competitive, but again, one working eye doesn't improve his chances from not doing all that well with both eyes. Depth perception can be a bitch if you don't have it.

In truth, no one can say for 100% certain, but the probability of Fedor taking a third round in his condition is highly unlikely. Particularly because its not a skills issue, but a physiological handicap: one eye, no depth perception to gauge the distance of a strike or properly time an oncoming strike to dodge or counter.

After about 10 years undefeated I think he has done extremely well. How many other fighters can claim such a record for a time period like that. He owes no one anything I enjoy seeing him fight win or loose I will always be a fan. Now I am amped for the Overeem fight!!

I am a fan and love watching him fight as well. I just think if he is going to be considered the best then he needs to fight the best. And the best fighters are now in the UFC.

Fedor is such a pussy! he hasnt fought anyone in there prime until now and he gets beat by guys that arnt even top 6 in the world. ive been saying this for years! wow he beat tim silva and andre if you look he wil only take fights aginst people that hold there hands low when there tired and have no chin....bret rogers come on and at the time he was number one get the fuck out.

Maybe you should contact his management and let them know you think he's a pussy and you'd like to show him how to do work. I bet the pussy part might fall by the way side when you get KTFO. I hate to tell you Ricardo Arona not a can by any means, nor is Renato Sobral,Semmy Schilt, Heath Herring at the time was rocking pride, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (twice) you may know that name being he has been in UFC, Fujita, Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman, Mirko Cro cop, Mark Hunt who at the time was a top level K-1 kick boxer coming over to mma, and Hong Man Choi also a huge guy at over 7' was a top level K-1 kickboxer. So never fought anyone in top six? Maybe not UFC top six but the UFC is not the only company in the world that hosts mma competitions.

This alone shows you have no idea what the hell you're talking about when it comes to MMA.

I have been training in mixed martial arts,(Muay Thai, a bit of jujitsu) for the past few years. So I'm not an expert but I know a bit. He is a great traditional Russian kick boxer, but the problem is now that mma has become so untraditional in regards to fight style that it has become a mixture or a mold of every fight style out there. These days you can't be one dimensional you have to be able to adapt to any style of fighting within a matter of a second inside the ring. So yes fador has past his,"prime" if he continues to stand up and slug it out with a traditional boxer. However if you follow the trend of badass one dim. Fighters remember chuck, tido, etc. Those guys have become obsolete. Anyways fador would still beat the shit out of all of us at once.... Cheers

Fedor is actually a Sambo fighter, which is a mix of judo and wrestling with some basic striking involved. He is actually one of the few to become a "1st razyrad Grand Master" of Sambo by winning multiple world championships in combat Sambo. For those not aware, Fedor's desire to compete in combat sambo, which is similar to MMA, was one of the major sticking points during his negotiations with the UFC.

Sambo is relatively modern since its development began in the early 1920s by the Soviet Red Army to improve their hand to hand combat abilities.[1] Intended to be a merger of the most effective techniques of other martial arts, Sambo has roots in Japanese judo and Karate plus traditional folk styles of wrestling.

I stand corrected as per his style. When I said kick boxing I was referring to the Russian military style fighting. Not many know sambo. It is an outdated form very seldomly used. Either way he is a good fighter his style is not comparable to modern fighting.

How exactly is Sambo outdated? If anything, it was ahead of the curve in integrating striking, wrestling, and submissions into one system. The main reason it is not seen too often in MMA is that it's roots are in the Eastern Bloc and very few other countries really practice it.

I'm not going to get in a pissing match about fighting style. If your a trained fighter then good for you. If your just some guy who goes out on Saturday night and watches UFC and googles fedor then you might want to chill out with the replies. I'm not knocking you or fedor just relaying a message stating that his style of fighting which is over 60 yrs old isn't up to par with the modern styles. I'm not a pro but I have been in the game a few yrs and I've been training for even longer so just speaking from past experiences being in the ring with similar fighters

I am a long time Fedor fan and knew one day this time would come, my old man and I talked about this exact scenario. That once he got that first loss it would be over or hard to come back from. The impenetrable armor is lost and other fighters at that level think to themselves they can beat him too and don't get siked out before they even get in the ring / cage. Also its if he could get his head clear of the loss and know he could still win. But in this last fight I believe you could see the nerves just by the first 30 seconds the way he seemingly was wildly throwing punches. Almost frantic so I believe mentally he maybe defeated as well. I have enjoyed watching his stoic career and will watch my old Pride DVD's in awe of the old days.

Well said my friend. I'd say you win this battle Juiceheads today. But I agree if he calms down and gets back in gear he Is a force to be feared. Like I said he beat any of our asses.

now, but back when he was in his prime, the best in the world were fighting in pride fc. ufc has stepped up the game only in the last few years with its fighters.

dont get me wrong, ken shamrock, kimo, don frye etc are/were all excellent, but they werent like wanderlei, crocop, nog.
