Owner of Texas Underground Steroid Lab Prepared to Kill Police Officers
by Millard Baker

The apparent owner of an underground steroid lab (UGL) operating out of his Austin-area apartment was arrested last week. Damon Bruce Beshears told police that he had planned on killing as many police officers as possible if his apartment was ever raided. A personal journal obtained during the execution of a search warrant detailed Beshears??? plan ???to kill persons before killing himself???. Beshears??? arsenal included a Kevlar helmet, ballistic vest, Norinco Mac 90 semiautomatic rifle, semiautomatic 9mm pistol, a Colt revolver and ammunition

Natural pro bodybuilder Dave Goodin was curiously quoted as saying that Beshears seemed like ???such a nice guy???.

???He wanted to do it without taking any bodybuilding drugs,??? said Goodin, who added that he saw Beshears over the years at the gym and at other competitions. He always seemed like such a nice guy. Very polite, very courteous all the time- and was always very nice to me.???

A confidential informant notified police that Beshears was distributing anabolic steroids. The informant made an undercover steroid purchase from Beshears which was the basis for the search warrant which uncovered approximately 5,000 capsules of oral steroids such as Anadrol (oxymetholone) and Winstrol (stanozolol) and 240 vial of injectable steroids such as testosterone.

The Austin Police Department (APD) did a thorough job investigating Beshears before executing the search warrant. They noted that Beshears had threatened a suicide attempt in a call to police in February of 2010. They also suspected that Beshears was armed. After conducting surveillance they observed that Beshears did not leave his apartment for weeks at a time. Based on their investigation, they determined that Beshears was ???emotionally disturbed???. Consequently, rather than confront Beshears in a full SWAT team-style raid, APD waited for Beshears to exit his apartment on his own volition. This decision possibly averted a violent confrontation and potentially spared loss of life.

I never understood why they would take any other action. Unless there's a hostage in danger of execution just wait for the bozo/criminal to walk out on the street.

That strategy probably would have saved a lot of lives in Waco and other instances.
