    Hand Injury?

< ALWAYS > keep your thumbs wrapped around the bar, especially the heavier you go. bad advice.

    bahaha today i almost got 440 (couldn't lock it out) and 4 x 405

    MMA Specific Training

sure. in football there are a ton of positions which don't require athleticism, just pure brute strength. you can weigh 300+ pounds and be 30% bodyfat, without being able to run a single mile without passing out, and still make it in football. in MMA pure strength is just one of many...

Getting Bigger, But Not Any Stronger

prioritize bench press and squats/deadlifts (pick one). over the next 2 weeks work up to 1 rep maxes. train at 3 rep max for a couple workouts, then get up to 1RM. this should increase your strength in the short term. until i worked up to my 1 rep max on bench a couple weeks ago my strength...

    MMA Specific Training

prefabricated training ideas i can think of for mma include crossfit (may or not be useful, i don't have much experience with it) and, yeah, i've read (should say scanned) ross enamait's book. there's a lot of good ideas in there. also, one would think kettlebell work would be very effective...

Are squats really that bad for you?

based purely and solely on my own experience with squats and deadlifts, i would actually advocate deadlifts as the better and safer movement. the feeling i get is that with deadlifts you're overloading muscles (your back, hamstrings etc) while squats for me always seem to overload my joints...

    Deadlift

actually though will i lose strength throughout the posterior chain muscles by doing this? by focusing so heavily on grip and mastering lighter weights, will i lose more maximal strength than i would if i had a shorter or nonexistent volume phase and just went straight to heavy?

    energy drinks

the expense really pisses me off. the most i paid for an energy drink last year was 1.99. but now the going rate is like 2.60. i feel like the money is well spent though cause i love the taste and i never drink them except at the gym (gives me something to look forward to). i guess i associate...

    Deadlift

i think the most pressing issue is grip. back when i was doing 405 for 4 or 5 i would always fail on grip first, and always my right hand (i broke it). so i've started doing towel pull ups to increase my hand and grip strength. i think i'll try to work my way back up using a 2 hand pronated...

    energy drinks

I usually drink a 16 oz energy drink before my 3 day a week workouts. Aside from rotting the sh*t out of my teeth, is there any downside to doing this? I read in a bb'ing rag that drinking high glycemic index carbs during a workout can blunt GH response. Is this true?

My training program - Lee Hayward tweaked

the thing is, as a n00b, if doing the Lee Hayward program will get you in the gym and a squat/deadlift/bench routine won't, then you should just do the damn Lee Hayward thing. the most important thing in weightlifting, as in life, is simply showing up. if anyone were to go to the gym 3 days a...

    Deadlift

"It sounds to me like your maximal strength isn't that good. Based on what you can do for and "easy" 10-15 reps, you should be able to pull substantially more than 405. Sounds like some heavy lifting is in order; lifting in the 90% 1RM zone or higher. However, that is assuming your goal is to...

    Deadlift

What's a good training program? I was at 430 exactly 8 weeks ago but now I struggle with 405 (I stopped doing deads at that time and only did pull up variations until last week). I can get 10-15 easy reps at 315. How should I train deadlift? Should I go for heavy singles or for more volume...

    Dumbell vs Barbell bench press

i've found that dumbbells give me more direct chest stimulation because of the greater range of motion. you have to control the dbs very carefully or they'll get too far out to the sides and the movement turns into a db fly instead of a bench press. since the weights i use with dbs are way...
