I have to totally agree 'ass to the grass' is the best way for glutes and overall quad development ...i hate it when i see guys using too much weight and doing pathetic little curtsies!

5x5 is good for strength but you still pyramid up to it in most cases eg:
5x 305
5 x 320
5x 350
5x max
5 x max
try a 5x5 routine for a while it can make a huge difference to your bench if you're tired of a rep scheme such as:
12,10,8,6,4
