Some absolutely amazing physiques were built decades ago before there really were any supplements...any real "equipment" aside from BB and DB's...and before there were fancy diets and training methods!
Why? Discipline, dedication, consistency, passion!
I generally "surround" my workouts with BCAA's. I take before, intra, and after. If for some reason I know my breakfast may be delayed I will take some BCAA's in the morning.
For proteins:
-egg whites
-fish, like tilapia
-turkey breast
For carbs:
-white rice
-rice cakes
-baked potato
These are my personal food choices for post workout when/if I decide against a shake.
Some are for mags, some are for ads, and some to support a new E-book I am doing soon. While I HAVE been paid for some shoots, with these I just get free trips to Cali, all expenses paid. Plus I can use them for my own portfolio and marketing.
