Fifteen people, including a Philadelphia Police detective and two officers, have been indicted on federal charges of running an illegal steroid-distribution ring, authorities announced today.
The detective, Keith Gidelson, is accused of receiving monthly shipments of anabolic steroids and human growth hormones from suppliers in California, according to the indictment. Gidelson and his wife, Kirsten, then sold the drugs to others, the indictment states, including people he met in online weightlifting-themed chat rooms, as well as the owner of a vitamin shop. The indictment also alleges that Gidelson sometimes ordered steroids directly from foreign suppliers, and shipped them to customers in other states.
Police officers Joseph McIntyre and George Sambuca are also charged in the indictment.
Gidelson, 34, and McIntyre, 36, have each been with the department for 14 years. Gidelson was assigned to the Safety Office, McIntyre to the 26th Police District.
Sambuca, 25, has been with the department for two years and works in the 22nd Police District.
Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey, who said the officers have been suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, described the arrests as "another dark day" for the department.
"This certainly does not reflect the good work that goes on every single day by the men and women of this department," he said. "Unfortunately we do have some that tarnish the badge, and continue to do so. And we will very aggressively continue to go after them and get them out of our ranks."
U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger said in a statement that the officers violated the public trust.
"In this case, a person who holds the public's trust is alleged to have placed these very harmful substances in the very same hands he was entrusted to protect," Memeger said.

Domestic steroids sale is total unsafe! All who have domestic offer got busted soon or later.!
International is no safer then domestic. Domestic would actually be safer since you wouldn't have to deal with customs.
