A bit of hypocrisy

Now, don't get me wrong...i think what is going on in iraq is necessary

but this talk of showing american POWs and how much of an outrage it is...how many iraqi POWs have been shown by american media? just a small point...

They aired that?

I just poked around Al-Jazeera`s homepage and it was rather shocking....dead soldiers ( both US and Iraqi ) as well as some dead kids. I`m not planing to go back and look at the upcoming pix of the bus that was just accidently bombed.

On the one hand I guess I`m kinda of glad that our governments censor these things, but on the other hand........thats war, and even though it is being done for the benifit of all, it is none the less shocking in its reality.

One point to remember is. What Iraq has done with our POWs is strictly forbidden by the Geneva Convention. We have not that and most likely won't.

I did not see it myself, but watching Fox news last night, they were saying Al-Jazeera aired the "interviewing", beating, torture, and execution of US soldiers. I am honestly not sure what US networks aired it (if any). I hope I never see it.

I heard in an interview that the US aired none of it, and I agree that that is something I don`t want to see. I can still clearly remember watching the soldier in Veitinam shoot another guy in the head.

On Al-Jazeera`s homepage I did see a pic of a black man with a bullet hole in his forhead, so it may well be true.

But here is the excerpt that pertains to what we are 'screaming' about:

1. Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.

To this end the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:

(a) Violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) Taking of hostages;
(c) Outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment; <----this is the one...they were put on by a state run television station..and were being questioned about who they were, etc...on STATE television...
(d) The passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.
