abs for power?

will doing ab workouts help me with overall power at linebacker and Defensive end? i dont really do abs right now cause i dont feel i need them, since im not as much as bodybuilder.

your abs hold everything together!

as a football player having strong abs will help with your explosiveness as well.
 
Of course...core training is essential...and don't forget to train the transverse abdominus for balance and stability.
 
I agree with all above, I would almost think core strength should be a priority for a football player.
 
Core strength is the strength of your abs and lowerback. These 2 muscles keep the upperbody in a hard stable position so the power from the legs can transfer to the shoulders.

ok, thanks. now i get why its important. i need to keep my whole frame steady, i hit with my shoulders.
 
Abs support the back in a huge way, I would fold on heavy deadlift days because I was lazy with my ab work, no longer a problem :)

Well it is very important for me to have a strong core because i play Rugby League. I can imagine that core strength would be very important for American football players aswell.
