could you guys help me out with a good abs routine, I am 5'7,171 pounds and about 14 %bf. Please help me thx..:rocker: :rocker:

If you was to gain more overall mass and then lose the body fat you will have good abs.

In my experience ab training alone wont make good abs.

Can you tell me your goals i.e. what size you want to become?

Unless you are a genetic god you must be joking. Your abs are just like every other muscle, you need to work them for functionality. I am pretty sure you are refering to visible abs. This is correct, if you want visible abs training is not the place to focus your time on its dieting you should be worrying about.

If you want a solid core treat them like all other muscles, add weight and train em hard. If you want "pretty" abs you need to concentrate on lowering your BF%. Pretty abs in the real word serve nothing more then looking pretty, a solid strong core helps to prevent injuries and aids in lifts such as squats and deadlifts. Not that im bashing a visible 6 pack, shoot I'll be attempting them after this bulk, but right now I'm focusing on a strong core. And to do so you need to work them!

Just hold up will you.... a 160 lb guy ripped will have what you call "pretty abs" a 220 lb guy ripped will have what you call a "solid core" you aint goona get a guy with 15inch ripped arms and abs the size of a guy with 20inch arms and 50inch chest, no matter how much and "heavy" he trains them. Thats why i asked the guys goals (dms2425), if he only wants to have a slim toned phisique then train abs and diet all you want, if on the other hand he wants to be a big guy with rippling abs then he will HAVE to focus on getting big first using compund exercises and high protien and calorie intake.

You don't need to be big and massive to be strong. I know plenty of guys much thinner and smaller then me but are stronger. Mass only has to do with calorie intake. If you don't eat enough cals you wont get bigger but your muscle will keep getting stronger..to a certain extent...

Now at a ripped 160 you can have a strong core, it just depends on how much you train it. You don't need to be 220lbs ripped to focus on diet and compound lifts. Honestly I feel the smaller and sooner you start training your core and compound lifts the better off you are.

Now back to the original question, dms2425 wanted a routine for abs. You stated that you don't need to directly work abs for good abs and that its all in the diet. To a certaine extent true, you need a good diet no matter what your goals are but I feel you were leaning more towards visible abs. A solid core is exactly that, a strong and solid core that will aid in preventing injuries(strong abs, but not always large) a normal 6pack just means you have lower body fat andare able to see the muscle (this doesn't mean they are strong).

Understand where I'm getting at? You can be 160lbs and have a higher BF% with a strong core.

I think we are both thinking different things you about strong abs me about big abs. lol maybe if DMS could elebrate as to what he wants to get out of a ab routine and his long term goals.

I do agree with you that people can be strong and not big but he didnt say he wanted strong abs or in fact he didnt say he wanted big abs so hopfully dms will explain what he wants.

What I was stating was not about strenght

If you was to gain more overall mass and then lose the body fat you will have good abs.
What I was stating was that if you want better (in the sence of bigger and ripped abs) abs then if you was to get bigger overall then cut down, as your abs would grow as they assist most exercises.

Also I didnt say dont do ab training I said ab training alone wont make good abs (good abs as in looks i.e. big n ripped).

But i do understand what you mean when you say have a strong core at a light bodyweight but we both dont know as of yet (dms please tell us) what he really wants ultimatly (i.e. big ripped bodybuilder, tonned sprinter look, or just for strenght).

The reason for my quick judgement on ab training is because I see guys at my gym performing set after set of ab training for years but because they dont really grow much musclce overall they dont see much impovment as people seem to afficiate that all you need to do is a mircale ab workout from a Flex mag to have abs like darrem charles (pro bodybuilder).

:rocker:

sry I didnt get online till now, my main goal is yeah like one of you guys said is lower my bf , with doing that my abs will be visible, but I dont want a perfect six pack I rather have a solid core than a "six pack".

Here's what I do . maybe it will help . Pretty basic but it's working for me . I'm cutting right now and can't wait to see what is under that BF.

Oh and i work abs twice a week .

I was thinking of something similar thx for the help , anyone else has another routine to share?

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
Just mix it up buddy. Id give you mine but its more complicated then gw's. Just try some weighted crunches or cable crunches, hip raises, some machines, leg raises, anything that will stimulate the abs heh. Mix some heavy weighted ones with some higher reps of non weight and you should be fine. Just be consistent and you should do pretty good.

Try:
Cable Crunches-heavy
Hip Raises-high rep
Sinde Crunches-moderate rep's with weight
Depending on how much you like to do for abs 2-3 sets each will do just fine.

Then later on mix things up and replace some with other excercises.

gwcaton, have you ever looked at my ab routine?

Nope , but i will :thumb:

Yea it is a kick as routine if I d say so myself heh. Unless you have cables at home its tuff to do it. But check the first post of my journal and you will see it under the chest and back days(twice a week).
