Actors as Fighters: Who was the Most Convincing?
27.03.06 - By Craig Parrish: Hollywood loves fight pictures. While they are not as common as they used to be, it still seems like every year or so we get at least one movie that centers around boxing. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just plain silly. Over the years, many actors have taken on the daunting task of trying to portray a prize fighter realistically in the ring. This would prove especially difficult as most boxers spend a great majority of their childhood and adolescent years training, and in essence grow up in the Ring. Most actors have a limited amount of time they can spend training for a role. So I thought it would be an interesting idea to take a poll of fight fans opinions to see what people think.
Please respond to this article with your choices and I will tally up the responses after a certain number have been posted. Please post your picks, 1 through 5 only once, so we get an accurate count. Professional boxers who portrayed fighters in films should not be listed. Obviously, there are not many people who have seen every boxing film ever made. Here???s my top five from the movies I???ve seen over the years:
1) Daniel Day-Lewis, THE BOXER
2) Robert DeNiro, RAGING BULL
3) Michael Jai White, TYSON
4) Kirk Douglas, CHAMPION
5) Russel Crowe, CINDERELLA MAN
My vote is DeNiro hands down in Raging Bull, who do you think was the most convinsing????
