I am currently currently doing a four day split ( monday: chest and delts , tuesday: back , thursday : legs , friday : arms ) , i switch up my routine every four weeks to try and prevent a plateau , however i am on my second week of this routine and i was thinking of adding calves in with abs on wednesday ( rest day) as i find i dont really have enough time on leg day . i think i may be going in a haphazard fashion if i do this? will this effect the routine?

A very effective exercise routine should consist of 3-5 workouts a week at a length of 20-60 minutes. Try reverse and regular crunches for your abdominal muscles. Also, don't forget to keep a proper form while exercising. You are in the right track because doing a variety of exercises is the way to firm up and flatten those abs.

yes , but what i mean is that would it be ok to add in calf work with abs without wrecking my rouitne?

no problem to do calves with abs, i don't see why not, you can also split your shoulders workout : you can do side and front delts with chest and rear delts and traps with back
