I have been using a 3 day workout program for about a year (switching up the routine a little every now and then), but recently I switched to a 4 day a week routine, 2 different workouts, it has been a month or so and I can't seem to get used to it. I feel really wore out during my 3rd and 4th workout. I am 38 but I am in pretty good shape, I don't think I'm an old man but maybe I am

Do I need more rest between workouts or will my body eventually start feeling a little less overworked with time?

I'm almost 31 and I can remember years ago when I moved from a 3 day routine to a 4 day routine that I felt the same way. But eventually I got use to a 4 day routine and I think that you will too. Take a 60 to 90 seconds more rest in between sets until your stamina builds up.

Not sure but I would cut it back. I'm doing a HIT program right now and it last about 30-40 minutes every 4 days. I'm 35.

Old? Im 38 also and Im not old I work out five to six times a week doing one body part a day plus cardio three times a week.Try more vegys if your not eating them that much I know its hard to get them in the diet most of the time.It does take time to get use to the routine or any routine.Drinking alot of water helps for me also.

I was doing a 3 day week then went to 4 cuase I had more time but am now back to 3 cause lack of time again.

When I went from 3 to 4, I had to get use to leaving the gym earlier. I was use to working out for an hour and a half but found that to much when going 4 times a week.
If your going more often, I'd say cut the time in the gym back to make up for it.

Over time you'll get use to it.

Just another day in the gutter

As you age, your recovery time is longer.
Just keep that in mind when you design your programs.

train smart not hard

Skinsfan,
I am also 38 and used to train 5 days a week.Yes I got used to it but after aboutsix to 8 weeks I would find myself going backwards(overtraining). I am currently on a 3 day split routine and am seeing better results. Also have you heard of ZMA? I just recently started taking it and it seemsto help with recovery. It's a ***** to have to admit your starting to get old

I am 39 and I work out six days a week and do cardio two days. I would workout more if I thouight that I could..... but I am lucky and I recover quickly. Pianomahnn you WILL BE this old one day....hehehe.......

Whats this old crap! I just turned 40. I was away from the gym for 6 years, I started back again exactly 1 year 2 months ago and I'm 10 pounds away from a personal best on the bench. Gear your routine on what works for you. I believe Ed Coan(sp) is around 40 and is still one of the best powerlifters in the world. Btw, I'm an eagle fan, Good Luck with Shottenhiemer! Go E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!

I did push myself to the limit and did 14 days once, NEVER AGAIN !!!!!!

My body was willing but my mind was not.
