There's a huge difference between bouncing and tapping. I think tapping is underrated, because there are several benefits to tapping over setting down.
- eccentric muscle action before concentric is easier on the joints.
- constant muscle tension
- easier to maintain neutral spinal position
- higher weight potential (depending on use of myotatic stretch reflex)
The key is of course tapping without bouncing. In fact, you might want to stop movement an inch above the floor so that the impact of the 'tap' does not screw up your form, which is very likely.
I think many people are stuck in the narrowminded view that there is only a single way to perform each exercise, while there are often many. Your goals, not tradition or normality, should dictate your actions.
