has anyone tried this exercise? i read johnnie jackson does it in his chest routine its supposed to work the top of your chest more than incline

you mean a push-up?

yea, I have done them.

If he says it works the top of your chest he is a moron. the reason you do it is to work lock out strength.

The floor press is an exercise to train the top portion of your bench press. It's really a heavy tricep movement.

Floor pressing? Refined. It is just like that guy in the supplement forum with the "cooking measuring device" for scale.

Vieope wtf are you talking about?

Haha. Don't worry about him. I think what the poster means is those so-called 'diamond push ups' or something that work your triceps heavily. I've done those as well and they definitely work.

Great exercise. It also teaches you to become tighter in the bench position and it's a harder movement since you can't use your legs to help drive the weight up.

Like in bench press.

hey V, in case your still not clear a Floor Press is not a push up, its a bench press but done on the floor, limiting the ROM to the top half making you overload that portion and, hopefully, making you stronger. Strengthen the weakest and you strengthen the whole.

Sounds cool going to try it next Monday

I tried and got strain on my arms...There are safer exercises to work your bench lockout e.g. close grip bench.

like any other movement, you need to go atleast a little lighter than usual to teach your body the proper motor patterns to execute the movement. Dropping the bar too fast can probably damage all sorts of shit cause your slamming your elbows into the floor with a couple of hundred pounds pressing down to begin with.

How do you start the set?

I am imigining myself sitting down holding the barbell in my lap, then lying on my back hoisting the barbell in to position and starting some reps.

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question

set the pins in the power rack at the bottom and then just un-rack it from there.

no power rack in my gym unfortunately..would it be ok to perform floor presses on the smith?

it is never okay to perform anything on the smith machine unless. :thumb:

ps...this isn't an exercise you do for reps. it is somethine you more or less are maxing out on to try and work your lock out strength.

Yep, rack lockouts and floor pressing are low rep movements. More for triceps, wont touch chest for shit.

I consider it more of a 'training' movement than a bodybuilder type thing.

Alternating Floor Press
1. Lie on your back holding a kettleball in each hand.
2. Alternating with your arms push up one kettleball at a time.
3. Slightly rotate your trunk when pressing the kettleball up. Repeat with the other arm.

That looks like an incredibly obnoxious and uncomfortable movement, haha.

It does, I was looking for sandbag and kettleball training and I found that.

I'm wondering if I'd hurt my back doing that. Looks like one of the "lost movements," like a one arm clean and press.

That looks as though that would work the core area, and since he's kind of shifting his body isn't that a different ROM than regular floor presses, correct me if Im wrong. Just wondering.
