^ Strongly disagree. Atkins (or other ketogenic based diets) are the some of the most muscle sparing diets. Since insluin levels are low, this means more glucagon, which in turn allows for 'fat' to be burned as fuel. Once/if ketosis is established you are burning fat primarily, and adequate dietary fat lowers cortisol levels, so muscle can be spared to a greater effect. Also, fats (especially saturated) raise test levels and promote anabolism. Yup, you can actually build muscle, and I know for a fact that this is true. There must be a calorie deficiet for results. Atkins is a horrible choice to make for a ketogenic diet. Follow the atkins priniciple, BUT couple it with a calorie restriction, Good unsaturated fats over saturated, and exercise.
However, that's that. You don't necessarily have to get into this kind of a diet to lose fat. It does have some advantages, and it's drawbacks as well. The type of diet ( i.e. nutitionally balanced) and exercise as mentioned above is all that you actually need.
