Back in the day, I was an avid collector of hockey jerseys, and being the snob that I am, I would only collect the authentic on ice jerseys. I just feel that replicas just suck, and there's nothing like an authentic, regardless of the cost, so yes, it is an expensive hobby. The jerseys used to be somewhat affordable however, as I was able to get customized authentics for around $140-$170 depending on the team.
Now, with the new Reebok "Edge" jerseys, the authentics are pretty much unobtainable, except if I splurge on a special occasion. I am a Rangers fan, so I purchased a home Henrik Lundqvist and an away Marian Gaborik jersey. they cost me $300 each with shipping, whereas, the Reebok replicas can cost $120 customized. But there really is no comparison between the two....the authentics are so much better, and with the new jerseys they have now, they fit even better cause they are slimmer and more form fitting. I would love to collect a jersey from every team, but it's going to be a long and costly endeavor. for example, I found someone selling authentic Panthers jerseys on ebay for $80. I had to jump on that, and if you want one, I would jump on it too, cause $80 for an authentic is pretty damn good. It's a sick jersey too, just got it today, very sharp, compared to my boring old Rangers jerseys, it blows it away in terms of looks.
Next on my list will be a home Avalanche or Blues, or the alternate Kings, those are sharp jerseys too.
