2 things at least me thinks:
1. Age:
Singer cannot hit the high notes and extended notes like they did when younger. Same as athletes.
2. Also, how a singer takes care of their voice.
Two examples of many are Geoff Tate of Queensryche and Brad Delp (RIP) of Boston.
