balance bar

JUNK! too much sugar and additives. read the label! :finger:
real food is MUCH better!

no, none.....get serious!!!

I use a blend. isolate is good, especially if you are lactose intolerant. But those are not MRP (meal replacment shakes) which is why you are using the bar right? You should get a good MRP and a shaker bottle.

isolate being the BEST but concentrate isnt bad either.

to be quite honest with you - whey protein, ground oats, natural peanut butter or added hempseed or flax oil and some fruit! :D

yeah, or even just flax and an apple. but those are tough becasue you have to carry a whole bunch of stuff to do it. That is why I recomend getting an MRP, jsut mx with water shake and there you go.

I use chocolate whey from optimum protien or EAS precision protien. I like Prolab's lean mass matrix cinnamon oatmeal MRP (but if I remember correctly I don't think Jen does:) )

 I had a veryyy bad experience with it is all Im going to say! :spaz:

Actually literature suggests that isolate may not be the best protein after all, because the speed of absorption and uptake is far too fast...in fact certain literature that I've read recently suggests that casein might indeed be the best protein, and that a mix of whey concentrate and casein is the bst post workout protein fix...

Peace.

so no bars are good? Ive been eating the met-rx protein plus ones like when im at school seems to be ok. has a bit of sugar like 11g per bar and 32 protein. Can anyone tell me what is no good about it?

Ok i just went and read the wrapper for one of those met rx bars. And other than sugar and perservatives no problem... i mean its better than a candy bar if I have no other real option.

heres my scenario i have like 5 min between my first period and 2nd period classes. So i eat the bar on the way. what in the way of shakes has like 300-375 calories that i could drink instead of this bar I really thought these things were good... evidently not

kvyd, I do the same thing, easting inbetween classes. I eat real food, that particular meal consists of:

-2.5oz turkey on 1 slice wheat n' fiber bread
- 2 raisen oatmeal cookies(in the recipe section)

Comes out to about 239 cal; 25 carbs; 4.5 fat; 24.5 protein
Not bad for an inbetween meal, also you can easily add any macro nutrient to that snack by adding turkey, or using differnt ingrediants for the cookies.

Hope that helps
Joe

ditch the bars everyone!

I have read similiar things. That is why I always recomend a blend unless the person is lactise intolerant in which case the only isolate protein is the way to go:thumb:

The only time I eat the bars is during snowboarding trips when cooking for myself is out of the question. We eat all meals out. So I buy a box of bars and live on them. Of course I'm also burning an extra 2000 cals a day. Normally, no bars for me.:toilet:

anything that comes in "bar" form is a candy bar to me and my diet. much easier to look at it like that.

If you have a sweet craving, it is better then a snickers, but it would definately be a "treat" meal, not a daily thing.

If the sugar is the problem then are the low carb bars ok or is there another problem w/them?

Protein shake or a can of tuna and some fish oil caps.
