What's the most practical bench for everyday strength? I've been concentrating on flat bench. I've found that I'm doing my flat bench max 10 times on the decline, and that was after my normal flat bench routine. Then my incline is less than my flat. Which part of the pecs do you use the most for everyday life? Which exercise should I concentrate on the most? And finally how do I get the definition and depth inbetween my pecs? Right now I've got almost a gap inbetween.

I would say that I find a combination of flat and incline gives me the best overall chest development although I do tend to keep flat bench as my primary movement. Ive never really got into declines cause the motion feels odd.

The main reason I do it is because they have the Hammer Strength eqipment at my gym. I like the way their decline is set up.

The reason your decline is so much better is because your lats are doing alot of the work and thats why most people don't bother with decline bench.

I would say work on the incline over the decline, start from the top down and you'll get the gap.

Makes sense about the declines. Thanks.

As for the gap, what about doing cable flies or something like that. I do machine flies but the arms don't cross or give you that much of a squeeze at the end. Would the cables help fill in the gap?

Thats what I thought,(cables) but the more I've read about it, the experts say stick with free weights use dumbell flies instead of cables.

I use to hate dumbell flies cause they just didn't feel right but after a couple of months, I now look forward to doing them.
