FOR LATS??? Traps !!!!

Nothing beats the good ol' Pull Ups or Chins when it comes to Lats.

Alternate Wide Grip Pullups and Chins regularly. If you're weak at them, stick with Pulldowns first, even though personally I'll try to perform Pullups or Chins in every Lat exercise, they kickass.

Besides that, all you need are Rows too thicken your Back, followed by Deadlifts. Yummy...

There is no such thing as a "best" workout. There are, however, EFFECTIVE workouts. For an effective workout we must overload the muscle, work as many of its fibers as possible, and not overtrain the muscle or our nervous systems.

All good back workouts should have some form of vertical movements...lat pulldowns, chins, some form of horizontal movements...seated pully rows, hammer rows, and some form of bent over movements...bent rows, t-bar rows, dumbell rows. You also cannot neglect the erector muscles, best worked with hyperextensions, or, even better, deadlifts.

A good sample routine for a natural trainee would be...

Week 1-
Wide Grip Chins 3xmax reps(if you can get more than 10, you may add weight)
Close Grip T-Bar Rows 3x8-10
Seated Pully Row 2x10-12
Deadlifts 3x6-8

Week 2-
Close Grip Pulldowns 2x8-10
Wide Grip Barbell Rows 3x6-8
Hammer Strength Row 3x10-12
Hyperextensions 3xmax reps(if you can do more than 15, you may add some light weight)

I would say do them on leg day.

Since you guys are talking about when to do deadlifts, since the secondary muscles that are being indirectly worked is the lower back, can you just have an upper back day and then on leg day have a lower back and leg day?

You can do full deadlifts on leg day. I do think, however, that because a proper leg workout is so intense and draining on the nervous system that deadlifts would possibly be too much for that day. I prefer my deadlifts on back day, which is followed by a rest day, and then leg day. But that is not a rule, just my preference. Most of the time, however, I prefer RACK deadlifts. With these, the bar starts at just below knee level, effectively eliminating much of the legs and enhancing the work done by the lower back.

the "best" back work out is an intense work out.but it is hard to classify what is the best,id say this, never walk out of the gym unhappy, even if it means going back and doing a couple more sets.and if you feel that doest work, make a mental note to try harder, more intense next time.:thumb:

Thanks Delphidoc...and welcome to ironmag.

Might not be the best w/o, but when I finally fail on chins I like ot just hanf there for 30-60 seconds to stretch my lats
