Our trainer generally has us doing within a 30 minute session, 8 exercises x 2sets each with 15 to 20 reps. Probably more of a circuit training routine.

I go pretty hard (for me) and push myself to exhaust my muscles groups. Heart rate rises, and if I'm not sipping gatorade or powerade, my sugar starts crashing. Even then I can still crash pretty hard.

There is no telling where my true sugar levels really are when downing the gatorade, its more a weakness/shakiness feeling that comes over me.

In fact the times I have gone with only water, I have/had dizzy spells.

Trying to balance things, and was wondering if something better (diet/nutrition wise) other than gatorade would be better combination (bananna, blue berries, gel).

Guess I should start testing myself in between workouts.

Are you eating something with carbs in it shortly before your workout? That'll cause low blood sugar, since the insulin from the carbs will cause your non-working muscles and fat to take up carbs also, causing blood sugar to drop. It's counter-intuitive, but don't have any carbs pre-workout.

Diet... better than when i started, but basically crap with decent cardio.
Age... mid 40's
weight... 5'9 190 with about 25%+/- bfat

My bloodwork has never been better as a diabetic and have been able to cut back on meds. Diet is still not strict (even for a diabetic). I see physical gains from lifting but they could be much better with diet and more cardio.

just avoid the simple carbs with high GI and prefer complex carbs with low GI
during the day
take some B complex too
u ll be fine

You really have to ask a good diabetes specialist on why your sugar fluctuates so much. Maybe due to the meds you take. Ask the doc.

Also, a pre and post workout protein drink will help fuel your muscles allowing them to recover (and grow if that's your goal). It will have a few carbs for recovery, but it shouldn't spike your blood sugar like a lot of sports drinks.

Many world class athletes suffer from diabetes. It is simply a hurdle that can be managed with proper nutrition.
