Dont buy into this. Sure, people deserve choices in their treatment (and they are allowed to make their own choices). But Gerson, Burzynski, chelation, et cetera are nothing more than nostrum. It's very misleading and gives people false hope. These people conduct their own trials and have no third party studies. As the same with the supplement industry, dont read someone's articles or studies where they are selling a product on the same site.
All medication/medicine will have side effects. Administration of any treatment will be determined by a risk/benefit ratio. This means administer a treatment if the benefit outweighs the risk. However, a risk is still present.
Nature will continue to kill more children than chemotherapy and radiation.
As far as alternative treatments that do have promise. delta9THC will induce apoptosis (cell death) in glioblastomas. I work as a hospice nurse and we had a patient in his early 40's with glioblastoma multiforme who tried this. He spoke with his onco, which was a neuro oncologist. The oncologist could not administer this treatment but told the patient to do what he felt like he needed to do. The patient had an acquaintance who was a chemist. The doses of cannabanoids it takes to induce apoptosis is extremely high, so side effects can get pretty nasty. Essentially he reduced this into an oil. The patient was receiving dexamethasone and a chemo agent (I cant remember which one but I know it was an antifolate drug), which failed to prevent blastomas. When chemo was stopped they decided on cannabanoids. I dont recall the timeframe of administration but it did stop replication and did induce apoptosis to some extent. However, the side effects were far worse. The patient had a seizure disorder which this seemed to make worse. They stopped all treatments except palliation
One of the neatest things is that methadone has the ability to induce apoptosis in refractory childhood leukemia without a negative impact on normal cells.
yep.
