I recently got a cat. He is less than one year old and very active. He started scratching the the sofa, bed and curtains. When I try to move him away or take him to his scratching post, it does not work. When I get angry and drag him away, he rushes there again, it seems to me that he does it on purpose to annoy me. If someone has got any experience in keeping cats, give me some advice please, because his cuteness is the only reason why he is still alive. Thank you:thinking:

I grew up on a farm and we had a bunch of cats. They weren't pets. On a farm with livestock feed everywhere, you either have cats or you have rats. I never cared much for cats but they were a necessity.

What you're experiencing is why a lot of people get their cats declawed. Once you do that, you have an inside cat for life. It cannot defend itself in a fight (and cats fight a lot) nor effectively catch prey. Cats have very good instincts but they utterly lack intelligence and are not easy to train. To train them, you have to appeal to very basic instincts. In other words, they really only understand the most basic terms of any condition - when I do this, something good happens but when I do that, something bad happens. Here's something you can try: get some catnip and rub it all over the scratching post. Also, get a squirt bottle with some range on it and fill it with water. I think you can figure it out from here.

The problem with cute, cuddly little kittens is that they grow up to be cats, and cats suck. At our local animal shelter they list the statistics of how many they take in as opposed to how many are adopted or returned to their owners. 90-95% of dogs are returned to owners or adopted. The rest are euthanized. 90-95% of cats are euthanized. That should tell you a lot about cats.

Dogs make much better pets because of their pack instincts. They are social animals and look to you as a member of a pack. They understand the concept of hierarchy and want to please you. Their loyalty is unimpeachable. A dog will give up it's life for you. Cats are not social animals and don't give a shit about you except when they're hungry.

I agree with you, cats are independent and more alienated from humans than dogs. I would say that cats are egoists, and dogs are altruists, something like that. Anyway, I'll try your advice, thanks a lot for the answer.

All that is true, but Cats are also stupid compared to dogs, I have two and they are all what you say and also dumber than a box of rocks!

ha ha

I can't say that mine is dumb. I think he is very smart (not smarter than a dog, of course), but he is also shameless and completely selfish. Sometimes it seems to me that if I don’t pass out in the kitchen, then he will simply use me as a stand to get to his food.
