Mine never really started to grow until a year of good training. But that is just me!

I have heard that the chest muscles are the last to mature in the body. From the age of 14 when I first started training until I was 19, I pounded my chest every week with benches and flyes and my chest didn't grow one bit.Eventually it began to develop, even though it lagged way behind the rest of my body(with the exception of my calves). Now, just working my chest once every two weeks or so I notice significant progress. My best "routine" for chest is 3 sets of dumbell benches performed on a swiss ball and pausing in the bottom position for a count of two seconds. The ball calls into play all the muscles of the torso to assist in the movement and it allows an awesome stretch in the chest muscles.Another exercise I have found beneficial in building up the chest that also emphasizes a good stretch is weighted dips on the parallel bars.Maybe stretching exercises are more beneficial in building up the chest rather than simple pressing exercises?

Most likely genetics.

My strong points have always been chest and legs. People in the gym always ask me how I got my legs so big, and how I got my chest so thick. Of course, I don't do anything special...

Just because the majority believes it, does not make it true!

I think broadstreet might have stumbled on to something with his statement about fly's. I think you guys should try using the pec dec to warm up with and go straight to dumbell incline and flat....The pec dec really helps you feel the muscle working, doing this first will then help you feel it more while you are pressing with the dumbells. And also at the top of the movement when using dumbells really try to feel the muscle squeeze, I think squeeze is really important and since my chest is one of my strongpoints I may just have me a theory there.

Anyway, I also think doing the pec deck first will help you recruit more muscle fibers into your other movements therefore stimulating better growth...Good luck guys and I hope that helps!

I've been working out seriously for almost a year now. While I've made considerable strength gains with my chest (Bench a butt-load more than when I first started), my chest doesn't seem to be growing. My arms, back, and shoulders have increased in size but more chest seems to be lacking. Is this genetics or something else?

Thats a good question. My chest always seems to lag behind other body parts. I havent tried it yet, but I might try to concentrating more on flat dumbell flys during my next split, since they tend to isolate the chest more. Just a thought. I hope someone has a good routine for this problem. I'd love some suggestions.
