I got a brand new laptop and when I try to shut it down, it gets frozen on the "Windows is shutting down..." screen. WTF?

call the company that made it. That should not happen on a brand new computer. Did you happen to install any of the updates from Microsoft, because I just recently had to fix someone's computer because of those damn updates.

I did do the updates, though it happened before that. The only other things I've installed are Photoshop CS, Dreamweaver MX and Office XP.

And no porn.

As of yet.

Go to www.pcpitstop.com . In the left hand column under "tests and scans", it will say full tests. Run those and they should be able to tell you what a lot of the problems with your puter are. It's free. Good luck.

Ya, right:yawn: .

Did it happen before you installed those apps.

Hey, I have an idea...send me your computer along with a check for $200 and I will fix it for you.

That's what I had to do to fix this ladies comp a few weeks ago. How in the hell would anyone know exactly what KB it could be. That would be such a bitch to roll back every update untill you found it.

Well bro, there are lots of things that could cause that. The two situations I had that were causing it were bad installs of the VB.net framework which happned to come in one of the early windows updates, and the other was from a corrupted XP install.
I was able to fix the VB.net frame work problem by going online and finding the newest version of it to install over the olf one.
I had to reformat to fix the bad XP install, so I hope you don;t have to resort to that.

www.geekstogo.com is a great site for asking nerds much nerdier than myself for advice. I have yet to have a problem that they could not help me with.
I am two semesters from a BS in Information technology, and a minor in computer science, and I still can't touch the level of nerdiness that these guys have reached.

I was never ashamed to admit I used Google many times and I encouraged others to do the same. Google is, and was, my good friend.

Have you tried removing the battery and then reinstalling it. If you haven't do that before anything else.

DylI'm gonna beat your ass girlie man.

Anyway, google helps a lot. Try rebooting and going into the F8 mode where you can start with the last good config. This MIGHT help a little. Otherwise the install was crap to begin with or you downloaded something and arent conscious of what it is. PM me and I'll help or go on AIM and we'lll fix it.

Were the programs legal versions or cracked software? If they were cracked you might of picked up a trojon or something....

Durrrrrrrrrrr, I'm sure by now if he hasn't gotten his issue fixed he's upgraded from XP to something newer.
