I'm looking for a computer case build a setup.. I'm looking to spend ~$100 or less. I'd like for it to look cool, but even more importantly is the option to have lots of air cooling. Any suggestions? What're your favorites?

Here's what i'm probably going with. Any suggestions on this, too?

You said you wanted to spend 100 dollars or less? All that stuff is gonna run higher then that. Unless you mean a thousand dollars?

He means $100 on the case, not the internals.

You can do better on the HDD though.

Buy another raptor X and throw them in a raid 0 array (assuming board has built in hardware raid controller)

Where are your optical drives at? Heatsink/fan?

You could do that, and it will share the bandwidth between the 2 hdd's...meaning it will be noticeably faster.
However, if you lose the data from one, the other is fucked too.
Basically raid 0 makes 2 hardrives one.

Alternatively you could put them in raid 1. One for backup.

Look for a case that has 1-2 intake fans, and at least one exhaust, preferably a 120mm fan on the back.

Yes I meant ~$100 for the case only.. the whole setup should cost me about $1200 or around there I think. As for optical drive i'll probably just get a DVD rw drive. Fans/heat sink i was going to wait until i knew what case to get so i'd know what size and how many... any suggestions on the case?

thanks for the information guys. Wouldn't a single raptor (not run in raid0) be very fast as it is? I was planning on keeping it as a system drive. I already have (2) 500 gb "my book" external HDs for media storage, ect. Good info so far thanks..

I like these antecs alot:
Newegg.com - Antec Solo Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

alternatively:

Newegg.com - RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - Retail

Those Smilodons are really great. Front intake, back exhaust. Looks cool.

And best of all the Motherboard panel actually Lays down!
You can pop the side panel down to work on your motherboard with ease...its really sweet.

Yea, he was just suggesting....I would not do it.
Not worth the money and potential disaster IMO.

Go with that raptor. It'll be fast...But they are loud and hot. So keep that in mind.

I'm well aware of the differences between raid 0, raid 1, and raid 5, etc, brach.

What OS are you going to run?

I wouldn't waste your time trying to mirror unless you are doing it with an array controller, which I doubt you'd waste the time and money to do.

Alot of enthusiast mobo's come with integrated raid controllers these days.

 Yes it is but the one he listed does not have it.

I'm sure he's going with Xp.

Yes I'm going with XP for sure. I actually know nothing about trying to mirror.

Don't worry about it man. It's not a big deal at all, we just had to nerd out a for a spell there.

And honestly, If I were you, I would just go with a nice little cheap SataII drive over the raptor. The speed difference is hardly noticeable if at all, and you'll be saving yourself 100 bucks.

I would too!

I had a custom rack-drawer console/case built and my desk top is still in a service rig being used.... never home any more to get to do some good ole DIY builds.... not familiar with the MB you listed but you may want to increase the RAM to at least 8 gb of DDR3 especially if your doing Multi media/gaming on it. There is a guy in Houston who builds custom game cases and chassis to spec, however you will pay more then 100 bucks....if your interested I can look his number up. RIght now I am answering this on an HP Elitebook running a high end i7 intel Q720 mobile processor, (Wish it was the Q820 but I got a good deal on this one) 16 gb of DDR3 with 2 TB of WD HDD... no optical drive since I had to replace it with a second drive drawer to gain my second tb hdd. I have CS5 master suite and it runs it flawlessly don't game much though so I can't comment on that.
