Cops Pepper spray and handcuff 2nd grader

hmmm...I would expect anabolic steroids to be on this list, they are very dangerous. :nerd:

What do you think makes the eight year olds so deadly?

. why should the cop risk injuring himself over this little monster? Even a minor wound, why risk it? I love how everyone here is chuck Norris. "yeah I would of side stepped it and summersaulted this kid harmlessly into a pile of pillows"

Right :jerkit:

Half of you would of ran out of the room screaming. The other half would of sprayed away.

I wonder if ice cream would have settled junior down? Of course that's just asking for more meltdowns.

The officer was definitely the one to take whatever action might have been called for, though. Any teacher touching the child could have found themselves being interviewed by a detective for their troubles.

Youre a teacher right?

How do you handle unrully kids?

Thats actually a good idea with the ice cream...But then again, ice cream would just reinforce his bad behavior. Heres a cone for acting like a freak, junior.

Maybe an ice cream cone laced with thorazine would of worked.

Using rewards for kids to make good grades is a BAD IDEA.

I went to a school that did that, for about 3-4 months...Long story short, the smart kids will get picked on EVEN more because they'll be receiving treats while the dummies get nothing.

One year in 5th grade my guidance counselor(aka my assigned mind spy) bought me one of those huge cookies and I got to invite 5 friends to eat pizza and the cookie with me at lunch...all because I was a quiet kid who they thought might be suicidal or something I don't know, but it was funny to me...I was being rewarded for being sullen and mysterious....

Concrete consequences.

  • Losing art time
  • Phone calls home
  • Losing recess
  • Having to listen to me say "Let's be reasonable!" and "Time out!"

:)

Yup. Giving out ice cream might have settled him down but all the other students would have gotten the message that meltdown = treats and goodies.

There's a book "Punished by Rewards" that notes that same opinion.

Amazon.com: Punished by Rewards: The Trouble with Gold Stars, Incentive Plans, A's, Praise, and Other Bribes (0046442001816): Alfie Kohn: Books

But I saw a Time magazine cover story which expressed the opposite opinion. :hmmm: No link immediately. I can Google that, though.

lol :) Maybe the guidance counselor simply wanted to reward you for being a reasonable child and a pleasure to be around. Sullen and mysterious trumps enraged and hyperactive any day?

Here's the question, who did you select to enjoy pizza and cookies with you, good sir? :)
