The lowest Sugar content I can find on Cottage cheese is 4g per serving. Is that still too much sugar to eat before I go to bed? And what is the optimal amount of protein to eat before bed. I've been doing 40g in shakes. Should I only do between 20-30g?

i think thats too much in a shake, because all your body is doing is converting that to fat due to inactivity while you sleep !

No thats good Rock! All cottage cheese is like that. Don't worry about it. Its a great source of casein. I eat 30G of it everynight before bed :)

30g, that's what a cup of Cottage cheese? How much sugar does yours have Jodi? Do you eat any fat with that or is what's in the cottage cheese enough? Thanks.

I take 5 fish oil caps with it. yeah, its 1C. of Cottage cheese :lick:

You are awesome Jodi, your always there to help. Thanks!

it's actually an especially good protein source to use before bed because it's absorbed slowly. eat up and don't worry 'bout the few grams of sugar. :thumb:

Awww, shucks! :spin: :p

Actually, if you're THAT worried about sugar content..you can find a dry curd cottage cheese or a pressed cottage cheese...the one I use now only has 0.8g lactose per 100g serving, and 25g protein...you can also look into Baker's Cheese or Quark (I dunno if you have those there, but here in Toronto it's everywhere) but I wouldn't worry about it..I stay stocked witht he pressed and the 4% variety, and I keep some 1% and Ultra Low Fat (0.1%) to throw in my shakes when bulking...

Peace.

My mom used to make cheese cake and pierogies outta it. Didn't like it then but can't get enough of the dry pressed stuff now

Thanks, I haven't heard of that down here though and I've checked out all the major Grocery Stores in the area.
