for my purposes of bulking and gaining mass, should i be taking whey protein or creatine?

How much protein are you getting in the day? Enough or not enough?

Building blocks come first, creatine/glutamine and other things come last.

yeah i agree with the above, protein is the best 1-1.5 grams per pound of body weight. get that down w/ natural food then try a protien supplement to get what your lacking. say you only get half of the protein u need from food, then get the other half from protien shakes. optimum nutrition makes a good whey protien supplement. as far as creatine it is good and i have noticed a difference in my training while using it (AST Micronized Creatine). i say get both along with a good diet, right training with adequate rest and you will get the results you want! :thumb: :thumb: :D

i take in about 150-160 grams per day. weigh 150

I would try and get more protein in than just 1g per lb of bw if I were you. How many cals are you eating daily if your protein is that low?? There is no supplement for a healthy diet.

First of All. I think Creatine gives you more of a fluffy look when it comes to your muscles. Whey Is like all proteins just another building block. Creatine gives you watery muscles. By opening up your muscle cells to more of a water base. Your muscles are 80% water and 20% protein. If you want to notice fast results i sugjest using Creatine. But if you want to get a thicker better built muscle i would just use Whey. I use both. I like Creatine cause it gives me adreniline before a workout. Whey just makes me feel like im complete for the rest of the day. No boost or anything. Personally i gain with just 25 grams of protein. But the more the better.

Protein and Creatine are 2 entirely different entities. they have nothing to do with each other. You could take both without a doubt as many of us have and do including me.

True but they both pertain to the muscle. Creatine Stimulates Muscle growth. Whey Promotes Muscle growth after a workout. Creatine is most used before a work out. And Whey used after when your muscles need the protein for restoration or building.

WEll actually, Creatine is a cell volumizer and works totally different then that of any protein powder. Creatine loads your cells with water.

Anyway the point is they both do different things to the muscles so both are safe and good to use in conjunction with one another.

Mudge is officially crazy... Creatine/glutamine and other things last? I'd have to say if you consider proper diet and nutrion a given then protein might be less beneficial than glutamine/creatine... don't you think? I mean, I'll give you that protein is the most important nutrient for muscle growth, but I'd say that glutamine especially might want to be considered sooner rather than later... I guess it really depends on the person, their diet, and their workouts though :thumb:

Kidney Problems?

Do any of you worry about developing kidney problems?

don't really have time to worry about kidney problems, if i had the time to worry about getting ill i'd probably worry about cancer or my athsma, i'm too busy worrying about college work and my training progress, plus too much worrying would lead to a personal depression, which i don't want, gotta look on the positive side on things

seriously man? kidney problems from a little whey and creatine? if anyone could prove it then i might worry a little!

not only whats stated above but if u drink enough water (like u should on creatine) u should be just fine. ;)

BOTH! Take the protien about 45 minutes after your creatine. Post workout.

I take both at the same time post workout.

Take the protien about 45 minutes after your creatine, for better results.

Whey and Creatine

I use 5 grams in the morning then 5 before i work out. Then after i work out i have soy because whey doesnt feel like it does anything.

Take Both of them simultaneously in your postworkout shake.
4 Scoops of Whey+10g Creatine+200mg ALA+70g Dextrose Monohydrate----> Perfect Post-Workout Shake!!

I take both just after workout. I hadn't heard about putting 45 mins. between. That's interesting. I have found that the creatine helps me in getting a better pump and the muscle seems to retain that pump to a degree for a couple days. I take creatine to help build, but the pump was a nice side IMO.

frequentvirtue, creatine gives you adrenaline? sure buddy.....

and i would take a protein shake immediately after your work out, then 1 hour later take the creatine. in no way you should take creatine immediately after a work out, and put protein on hold for 45 minutes.

No. There has to be high glycemic index Carb around like Fructose, Sucrose, Dextrose or Vitargo.

Apple, Grape, Sugarcane (Explosive!)....all are good choices!
ALA is Insulin Potentiator! (Take about 200mg)
ALA is non Caloric and post workout should be the time you should be least concerned about Calories!
