Date seeds increase testosterone levels, according to animal studies we recently wrote about. A supplement or superfood that can accomplish such a thing is of course dangerous to health. At least, that's what you automatically think if you've become cynical like us. But in the case of date seeds, this suspicion is unjustified. Date seeds make you healthier.Human study 1
Saryono Saryono, an Indonesian scientist at the University of Jenderal Soedirman, published a 2018 study in the Transylvanian Review in which for 14 days 32 women aged 45-58 soaked 2.5 grams of ground date seeds in boiling water every day, and then drank the extract.

The researcher had first cleaned the date seeds, and then left them to dry in the sun for a day. If you don't live in a country where tropical sun shines frequently, you can also dry date seeds by putting them in a preheated oven for about an hour. After the 14 days had ended, the level of the 'good cholesterol' in the women's blood had increased by 21 percent. In contrast, the concentration of the 'bad cholesterol' LDL had decreased by 22 percent. This means that the women's risk of cardiovascular disease decreased.

Human study 2
The same Saryono Saryono published a similar study in the Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal in 2020, likely based on data collected by Saryono in the study discussed above. [Saudi Pharm J. 2020 Aug;28(8):1014-8.]

In that 2020 study, a daily cup of date-seed tea reduced the activity in the women's blood, the activity of the inflammatory proteins interleukin 1 beta and TGF beta, and the inflammatory factors COC1, COX2 and PGE2.
