I think they hit differently at your lower back. Usually I used bar. I feel more to overall lower back. But when I used dumbell, it is so intense and it hit more to centre of lumbar.

Which one is hitting correct muscle?

Dumbells are held at your side if you use proper form you will use more legs with dumbells. The barbell is held in front of you therefore putting more stress on your lower back.

Defenitly do both and very it up. They recruit different stabalizer muslces in the spine. I also like trap bar deadlifts, if you gym has a trap bar.

I didn't even nkow people did deads with dumb bells. Never tried it.

Peace.

what does the trap bar look like?

I've never really tried dumbell deadlifts, but I will give it a shot in a few weeks when I change around my routine again. I really love barbell deads though.

You will see more people doing dumbell deadlifts when they come out with 400 pound dumbells

Farmer walks are definitely a beach, other than that though, I couldn't see using dumbells much for deads other than for grip strength.

-grip strength
-arm strength
-rear delt strength
-recruits different stabliazers in the back than a barbell deadlift because you can change where you are holding the dumbells (ie out in front, more to the sides, slightly to the back)
-recruits stabalizers unilaterally in the thorcic and lumbar spine

Just for the sake of switching up, I did db's yesterday and as I lowered the weight it came in front of me and at the bottom positioned, it looked like doing normal bb deads. I also noticed that when I do the roman version I get a really good workout in the hams. This may not be new to most everyone. atleast for me, I like them better than sldl's. I want more of the work done by my hams not lower back.

Yeah, I do my romanian deads on leg day as well because I feel it way more in my hams and butt. I am short (5"5') so I have to sit low and deep to deadlift heavy and I always feel it in my legs more.

thanks mudge, now with using this bar how would i perform the lift

you stand in the middle and hold the handles. You will be holding the weight at your side instead of intfront of you like on a regular deadlift. it takes some pressure off the lower back and really makes the arms work to hold the weight. I like it for high rep deadlifts because of the fact that it takes pressure off the lower back.
