What's you opinion on this? I'm kind of torn because one side they don't know what their doing to an extent, but if I was high on crack I wouldn't know what I'm doing either. What about repeat offenders?

I got this idea because a student at CU was stabbed in the throat because the mentally handicapped guy didn't like his tattoos, I guess this man already tried to stab another person a couple years ago in my hometown.

What people would like to offer up as a state of mental incapacity so that it can be a way out and what mental incapacity actually is are very different.

If someone wears a tinfoil helmet and argues with his dog about killing his neighbor, loses that argument, then does the deed yeah he's barking mad. Should he get the death sentence? If it was my son he killed I'd want him to die.

Let BigDyl live!
Let BigDyl live!
Let BigDyl live!

In NYC they let a whole bunch loose a few years back, you see them on the streets a lot.
A few made the news for pushing people off train platforms, rapes.....

They should be put away. Yes, there's medicine to make some better but when they are off it......it's back to crazy man.

That is very hard to say, I mean, it depends on whether you believe in the death penalty in the first place, personally I feel that certain crimes can fit that punishment

ummm I still dont know...a danger to society is a danger to society...If they dont respond to being locked up or medical treatment....? :hmmm:

You do know your one cell away from being mentally handicapped.
Right Fetus ? :p

I thought you were asking if we should kill off all the mentally handicapped...

The thread should be titled, "Death Sentence for Mentally Handicapped Killers?"

I don't think just being mentally handicapped should be punished by death.

DOMS is basically uber conservative, so to answer his question just google GOP and read up on their beliefs and rational models. ;)

:hmmm:

:hmmm:

:wits:

I can't come up with an answer for this one. If he is retarded, he wouldn't understand what he did, but he also wouldn't understand that we were killing him either. Bonecrusher makes an excellent point that If a retarded guy killed my mom, I would want him dead. But, I have a hard time saying that a retarded person should be executed.

I guess my answer is no. They should be institutionalized for the rest of their life if they commit a murder, and should never be let out.

i think it should depend on how Mentally Handicapped he/she is. I think if they're able to kill someone they should be able to be punished for it.

INCOMING WALL OF TEXT :(

As cruel as it may seem, I'm all for it. That view comes from both personal preferences and societal beliefs.

First for the societal part. If a person is incapable of living in our society without posing an unacceptable risk to other people (rape, murder, arson, etc...) then that person forfeits his or her right to live in my opinion. It's an unfair burden on the honest working person of society to be forced to support these murderers and rapists for the rest of their lives, many of them receiving medical care that the taxpayers themselves couldn't afford.

As for the personal preference, I am positive that If I had to make a personal choice between death and life imprisonment with no chance of parole, I'm nearly positive I would take death. I say nearly because since I've never been in that position, and never intend to be, it's not something that I need to spend a great deal of time thinking about.

Besides, maybe if we executed more of these intentional murderers and rapists, it might just make some of the potential ones think "Holy shit, I better not fuck around like that." Just to close up something, please note the word "intentional" - obviously I can't condone that severe of a punishment for an accidental slaying.

The real problem in my eyes isn't the extreme cases, it's the other criminals that I really don't know how to deal with. It's still unfair to the taxpayers to support these criminals for years but does theft, fraud, repeat DUI offenders, etc.. really merit an extreme punishment? (I'm all for shooting a kneecap in those DUI fuckers though)

Here's the story

Winnetka teen stabbed while at school in Colorado

August 28, 2007
BY ASSOCIATED PRESS
BOULDER, Colo.---- An incoherent man slashed the throat of a University of Colorado student during the first day of classes, then began stabbing himself, school officials said. Michael George Knorps, 17, of Winnetka, underwent surgery to repair damaged tissue in his neck but was doing well, university spokesman Bronson Hilliard said. The freshman was conscious after the attack outside CU's student center and had spoken to family members by phone, Hilliard said.

The freshman was conscious after the attack outside CU's student center and had spoken to family members by phone, Hilliard said.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Kenton Drew Astin, worked at CU last year as a cashier at the Alferd Packer Grill at the student center, school officials said. He was arrested and hospitalized Monday with serious stab wounds, the school said.
Astin was sent to a state mental hospital in 2001 after being accused of stabbing a 21-year-old Longmont man. Court records show Astin pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity on charges including attempted first-degree murder in that case.
Hilliard said there was no sign the school had performed a background check on Astin, who was hired through a program run by the county mental health center. Astin left his job in April because his temporary contract was over.
''Had we been aware at that time, obviously that would have been a huge red flag,'' he said of the charges.
CU Chancellor Bud Peterson said the school would immediately change its policies on background checks.
The university said Astin drove to the campus, walked to a terrace outside the student center and then showed a knife while talking or yelling incoherently.
He grabbed Knorps from behind and cut his throat before the student was able to break free.
A Boulder city police officer and a sheriff's deputy who were nearby rushed to the scene and campus officers arrived shortly after that, Hilliard said.
When officers ordered Astin to drop the knife, he began stabbing himself, so police stunned him with a Taser and arrested him, the school said.
The university used its new emergency text-messaging service to alert students to the attack, Hilliard said.

A prime example where we should just kill the man. I really can't think of a rational reason not to at this point.

^ Agreed.

They may not "know what they're doing", but they have still killed, and thats still a life thats been taken pre-maturely for no good reason. Still a family wanting justice.

I've known a few people like this (not murderers, handicapped) and though most of them have been fine, they were quicker to anger since they have trouble understanding. It must be frustrating as hell living in a totally confusing world.

These ones could be dangerous.

There have also been one or two who, though somewhat retarded or backwards, knew exactly how to play the disability card to get what they wanted. Sure, theyre mentally challenged, but it doesnt take much brainpower to figure out "if i do this, i can get this" after the first time.

Theres a guy working in my Mum's place with autism or something. He's on the same salary as Mum, but doesnt do ANY work. AT ALL. He sits there all day, typing his OWN stuff into the PC. Like stories, or random numbers into a spreadsheet he made. He'll take breaks all the time, two hour lunches, and get away with it cos he's disabled. He knows what he's doing. The worst part is that id go for that job in a second, but they cant get rid of him because his carers would yell "discrimination" !!!

Uh, no. What about the discrimination against the other hardworking people in the office who WOULD get fired if they pulled his shit? He's not doing his job, so just fucking fire him!!!

Sorry. Not reall applicable here, but i needed to rant. Its been a bad day or two :P.

i agree.

a danger to society is a danger to society.

my sister is mentally handicapped, so this is generally a sore spot for me, but a murderer is a murderer is a murderer.

You cant avoid that.

Is this guy really nuts? If he has priors and he was determined by the shrinks to be safe enough for his release then why is he doing the Allah whackbar on some college dude? Let the doc's give him a check-up from the neck up and if he is sane ... not very likely ... then he goes to prison for attempted murder. If he turns out he's barking mad then he gets to do the thorazine shuffle for life.

They should be permanently institutionalized.

At more costs to us?

Nope I don't care whether you are mentally challenged or just a fucking idiot. You don't want to follow the rules deal with the consequences. No special deals.

String'em up just like any other low-life fuck that thinks they have a right to take a life.

Another thing if they dont understand the concept of taking someone else's life, what makes it possible they don't understand their own life being taken.

So be it. Not my problem.

We have rules, for a reason. If they don't understand the value of there own life, then might as well end it if they are a threat to others.
