My DOMS will kick in harder a couple days after instead of the next day frequesntly w/legs and occasionally when i train other areas.. Iknow DOMS isn't clearly understood but anybody have any idea why this happens?

I don't know, but I have a killer case in my legs right now....

Although the cause of DOMS is not yet fully understood, it is believed to be mostly about the micro trauma caused from working out.

There are two general groups of thoughts about what causes the pain that you feel starting 24 hours after you workout. Some say that the pain is caused by the actual micro trauma and others believe that the pain is caused by the cleanup process that the body uses to get rid of the damaged muscle tissue.

The reason that it takes the DOMS longer to manifest in your legs could be because the muscles are larger than any other muscles, so it takes the body longer to start the healing process. Both in terms of repair and waste removal.

While it's anecdotal, some believe that when you really punish your legs (through an intense workout), it takes longer for the DOMS to manifest. Take it for what you will.

When my DOMS is the worst, I know it because I start to get sore within a couple of hours after the workout. If that happens, then I know I'm fucked the next morning.

Also, when DOMS (The poster, not the muscle soreness, heh) referred to the body's cleanup process for ridding itself of the damaged muscle tissue, he basically means inflammation. That seems to be one of the prime theories behind the pain you experience.

I notice this most with leg day as others have mentioned. When I switch up training to something my legs are not used to or haven't done in a while, two days after I'm hurtin' pretty bad (I dread #2! :) ), more so than the usual soreness of a workout.

icic thnx guys
