Today I trained my chest and back with supersets. This is the first time I have done supersets and I found that I was only able to use half the weight for supersets that I would normally use if I just trained my chest first and then my back. Is that normal? Will this hurt my gains because I can't use as much weight as I would normally use or is it okay because I am doing my chest and back, back to back in a superset fashion?

you can put a rest interval in between the exercises. Like chest, rest 45-60sec, back, rest 45-60sec, repeat.

I see. I thought the point of the superset was to hit the back right after the chest with no rest in between and then take a 2-3 minute rest. So even though I'm not lifting as much am I still overloading the muscles? I was just worried that it was my cardio since I'm used to a longer rest and that my muscle growth would suffer because I wasn't able to put more weight up.

I personally love putting super-sets in to change it up a bit - It doesn't bother me that I lower the weight, it still gets the job done

i havent had it affect the weight i push on strength. i was doing 2min rest on a 5x5. when i was doing more volume on a hypertophy phase years ago, supersetting legs and back, i was so buggered from a leg set that it definately affected the back superset.

Normal.

My "superstrict" BPs are a hell of a lot lighter than my "Ego" BPs. To me, a newbie, it's becoming unimportant to think about poundages... except as a reference point to begin movements in their own situations.
