Can anyone recommend some "maintenance exercises for arms, chest etc. that don't put much stress on the shoulder? Any tips for a faster recovery?

I'm no doctor, but I'd say you need to take some time off to let your shoulder heal properly before lifting any types of weight.

I agree, I think your hooped for any upper body work till it heals.

Has this been a problem befor? I have a friend that dislocated his shoulder a couple times and had to have surgery to correct it.

I was afraid you guys were going to say that. I guess I'm now on a cutting phase, cardio and diet.

It's popped out a few times before, but never stayed out like this time. I had to get a buddy put it back in for me. How long was your friend recovering from the surgery?

I wouldnt even do legs, squats put pressure on the shoulders. You can do leg extensions and stuff.

I'm not to sure how long it took for him to start exercising again, he had went to school so it'd been like a year before I saw him again.

He was a blackbelt in some martial arts and had dislocated it a few times, the ligaments were all stretched out and had to me shortened.

I've dislocated my shoulder more times than I can count. I wish I had let it heal properly before trying to train again. You'll want to keep the arm totally imobilized for two weeks. After that, start doing isomeric excercises to strenghthen again. Some excercises include:Get you hands on some tubing or some material like they use for turniquettes. Like a big rubber band with some resistance. Tie the band to a door handle or something and strenghthen the different shoulder muscles by pulling across your body, perform side lat raises, front raises etc. DO NOT go higher than 90 degrees. Once it feels normal again. Say another couple of weeks, go to weights, but again, do not raise your arm above 90. Once strength has returned, try excercising as normal. Don't rush it.
I know this is long, sorry. Hope this helped.
