I usually gain weight when I order the stuffed chicken marsala which comes with potato's. This all makes sense now lol
 
I'd say they do. I don't have any actual scientific evidence, but I read somewhere that the reason some people get so big in prison is because of the starch in their food in addition to their weight lifting, or lack there of. If I'm not mistaken, potatoes are a source of starch and thus would promote weight gain, whether that be muscular or fat.
