I was just wondering. Surely if you build new muscle every time you break it down through weight training, should you not get DOMS every time?

some will get sore. some wont. some will get more sore then others. some will get less sore. It depends on a lot of things like recovery, number of years training, etc....

Personally, I almost never get sore from my workouts. My body is used to using maximal weights for a lot of exercises, and I use very low volume. It's not an indicator of progress in any way, however - my lifts have continued to go up even without getting sore. Like P-Funk said, it depends on a lot of different variables.

Using higher volume routines I seem to get a higher level of soreness. Using lower volume but utilizing muscular failure more often, I don't get sore quite as much. I've seen gains using both kinds of protocols. Also, my legs tend to be more succeptible to soreness than just about every other body part.
