A recent network update on my campus resulted in a complete blockage of all p2p applications. I'm now looking for an alternative to download lots of untouched DVDrip quality movies, meaning 5GB files, not that 700MB divx shit.

Usenet is not an option AFAIK, as I don't have a provider on campus. The campus network is directly connected to surfnet.

So my question is: how should I now download movies?

Paysites are an option, but I can't find any that are affordable (15$ a month maximum) and provide high quality movies (dvdrip, 5 gig).

So, question number 2: does anyone know of a good paysite for DVDrips?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and will result in a blowjob by Jessica Alba.

invest in a rapidshare account

On wikipedia it says the maximum file size you can download on rapidshare is 2 gigs, which means they have no decent quality movies. Do you have an account?

Picture of Jessica Alba doesn't work BTW. :(

jessica alba pic ?

no the premium account holder downloads are almost unlimited i believe

I attached a pic of Jessica Alba below 'you know you want it', but, as usual, it doesn't work.

All rapidshare movies are Xvid quality AFAIK and wiki states:
Registration and payment allow benefits such as unlimited download-speed, download of several files simultaneously, queue-skipping, the facility to interrupt and re-start downloads, up- and downloading bigger files up to 2 GByte, allowing Free-Users to download your files with Premium privileges ("TrafficShare") and to store up to 500 GB of data that can't expire. Every premium account is limited to a maximum of 10 GB download-traffic per day, but the user is allowed to "save" traffic up to a maximum of 50 GB and can then spend the saved traffic all at once. You can also trade "RapidPoints", you earn when someone downloads your files, into additional download-traffic.

There has to be some way to get HQ movies... :\

People use split archives on Rapidshare anyways. If the limit is 2gb, theyll split it into numerous 2gb parts.

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. Since mostly all traffic except http is going to be blocked, and your network admin is probably running packet shaping software, your only option is http. Rapidshare servers are among the fastest there is for trading files.

There are tons of free rapidshare trading sites. Learn to use rapidshare, it is your friend.

I heard you praise rapidshare before. Do you have any links to or examples of high quality dvdrips? All I see is the 700MB stuff.

Do you have a premium account?

VNC +ssh, set it up so you can access your computer at home or a friends computer offcampus.....

Have you tried using encrypted bittorrents? It might be that your campus is just blocking what it can see, if it's encrypted it won't know what it is and may let it through.....most of the clients have an encryption option....

I've thought about VNC + remote desktop control. That's basically my back-up option, if I can get my parents to leave a pc on at home. Good call.

Encrypting was a great idea. It doesn't work though.

BTW the symptoms are:
- DHT: not allowed
- local peer discovery: not allowed
- peer exchange: not allowed
- connection closed by peer When I ...ither. Basterds shut the network down well...

Look into this; Remobo (beta) - Instant Private Network ??? Application

You might be able to get a few friends to set-up a smal sharing network with that and share files with each otherm hell you might be able to convince a friend who isn't on campus to join and you can ask him to DL movies you want and then send them to you via remobo....the options are limitless....you can set-up a Campus wide P2P network using this....

Another option is wireless Broadband, get a few friends to go in on it with you and share it on a wireless router locked down to only allow their MAC addresses...

You won't bypass the packet shaping software. Trust me. Tunneling out using ssh will probably get you noticed. The IDS software will probably pick up on that.
He can Tor the ssh...

Wow, that sounds awesome. I'm going to try it this weekend and see if it works. That's a lot easier than VNC + VPN + SSH.

The file sharing works via bittorrent, but it might still work, because I don't have to connect to any tracker (right? :hmmm:).

They don't have wireless facilities on campus. I know, it's unbelievable...
