I only have my jazz and some classic rock in higher bitrates, the rest of my music sounds fine at 128.....you gotta have Trane, Miles, Jimi or Led Zep in the best quality for those high flying trips that'll take you too low with your noise canceling headphones, funkincense and myrrhlo at hand, eyes wide shut and minds sky ablaze with imagery layered upon the disjointed time fragments of memory and flashbacks swirling into one another like galaxies colliding and creating whole new worlds....you know Third Eyesolation in your fortress of solitude.....

For music I grew up listening to on vinyl or cd's when I was younger I can hear the difference when I have it pumping through headphones, but if you've only heard the songs in mp3 it don't matter to me....Also, I can't detect the difference between music encoded above 192kbs. I can barely detect the difference between 128kbs and 192kbs.
Don't be so naive 2B1. You are not just a casual listener. You are better than that! Don't be like Sloppy Seconds!

I was coming from the perspective of practicality and the rapid evolution of technology catapulting our civilization toward a concrescence of consciousness and subsequent enlightenment.
When it comes to the quality of a listening experience, my first choice would be vinyl or straight from a studio grade analog multi-track recorder.
I'm actually an audiophile too. Got a badass system in my truck that I designed and built everything for around the resonance of the cab. That was a mathmatical nightmare.![]()

You're not trying hard enough.
i'll be the 1st to admit. . . i've never tried to play vinyl in a car before.
Laurel and Hardy did, they had a knob in the dashboard connected to a string which pulled the lever on the phonograph and they'd cruise in their Model-T while grooving.....of course in the scene I recall you see Laurel reach up to pull the knob and you think he's turning on the radio but it keeps coming with his hand and then you see string start spooling out, then CLICK and music. You think that's odd then they stop because music is skipping or whatever reason and open the hood and you see the record player.i'll be the 1st to admit. . . i've never tried to play vinyl in a car before.
