Holy crap. im reading this randomly surfing the web on another forum a guy posted...
First off I???d like to make it clear that I lost my
entire hand, not just the ???use??? of it in this freak dead-lifting accident. God,
what I would give to still have my hand, even if it didn???t
work.
Secondly, I???d like to say how sad I am that my hopes for a hobby of
bodybuilding have ended. I was actually really looking forward to joining your
community here and taking advantage of all the great resources. But now, it
seems like that???ll never happen. I mean, you don???t see too many ???one handed???
body builders out there do you?
I posted a few times in the ???pictures of
women??? board. Hoping I could get my foot in the door. Maybe people could
remember me as that guy who put up all that great over there. Sadly, I don???t
even feel like posting up anymore.
So, I bet you???re wonder, ???what about
your hand.???
Well it was seven days ago that I was working out with my
training partner. It was a Friday, our usual back and shoulders day. I???ve had
really been trying to crank up the intensity lately and the gains that I had
been making were great. It was time for my dead-lifts and everything was going
fine. The week before I had hit up over 400 pounds and I knew I could do more. I
don???t want to type in how much more since I don???t want to give anyone here any
ideas and then they end up in the same situation as me. So, I???ve got my weight
all on and I???m ready to lift. The weight went in the air and I was breezing by
fine. I got to the top of my contraction and it was then that I felt something
wrong in my left forearm. Seriously this all happened so fast, but the next
thing I knew the weight was crashing down and my entire left arm felt hot inside
and numb on the skin. I don???t know if I was screaming or what, but people
started rushing over.
My training partner caught me just as I was about
to hit the floor. Now mind you, I had no idea at this point what had happened.
The last thing I remember was looking straight up at the florescent lights of
the gym. I passed out at that moment. The next thing I remembered was waking up
in the hospital with a bloody stump instead of my hand. Well I wouldn???t really
call it a stump, more like just a mess. The doctors told me that the weight
became too much for my body to handle and instead of letting go like my right
hand did, my left hand kept it???s grip. The weight dropped only a few feet, but
it was enough distance to rip my left hand right off my arm. One of the bones in
my arm, the ulna, had also been dislocated, but luckily my hand had detached
right before it ripped clean out. When the surgery was done I asked to see my
hand, but they told me it had been disposed of. Can you believe
that?
Well it???s been seven days and honestly I???m feeling a lot better,
but maybe that???s just the drugs. I don???t know anymore. I don???t even recognize
myself in the mirror anymore. I???m just a shell of what I once was. I know I???ll
never lift weights again. Not because I can???t, but because I don???t want to.
Everybody, be careful and watch out for the loads you carry.
