It seems that lately after my workout, for the rest of the day and into the next day I'm having an electrolyte imbalance. I'm not one to add salt to my foods, but I'm craving stuff like a pregnant woman. Tonight it was salty ritz crackers.

Any one else get this? And what can I do to fix this??

I'm not big on Gatorade during workouts because of the glucose content, but I'm thinking I need an electrolyte replenishing drink during to aide for after my workout.

drink gatorade post workout. carbs and protein are key to postworkout anyway, and using the sports drink kills two birds with one stone. if you must use gatorade, use the powder as it doesnt contain HFCS.

I really doubt you have an electrolyte imbalance, the body keeps the water/salt balance in close check, if not, then it is highly dangerous.

So unless you are in renal failure, vomit volumes, have copious diarrhoea, or you are doing excessive amounts of cardio in the heat, a renin-aldosterone problem, or you are taking diuretics or ACE inhibitors or some other drug that will affect the sodium/water balance, it is just a matter of taking in a bit of salt.

Salt has gotten a really bad reputation, however, good quality salt is an essential, like a wheat free soya sauce (tamari or shoyu) umeboshi plum vinegar or paste, a good quality mustard, miso, gomashio, good quality pickle......................or just go for a sea or rock salt

Sorry to bump an old thread but I think I might currently be suffering from some sort of electrolyte imbalance.

About 2 weeks ago I got burnt really bad then got burnt again about a week later and was out in the sun for a week straight. Since then I have been very dehydrated but drinking a lot of water. For the last week or so since I got burnt I have been dizzy all day long and just feel weak. I even had diarrhea at one point too last week. I have been peeling bad for 2 weeks straight now. I also lost 2 lbs since last week. :( I never drink sports drinks at all so I am thinking about grabbing some Gatorade at lunch time to help with this possible problem. Or maybe even some V8 tomato juice. Or do you think something else is wrong? I hate doctors.

Doctors are pretty terrible at preventing problems but are good at fixing what's broken. Go see the doctor.

Gatorade is a pretty good start too. Water won't really rehydrate you if you are dehydrated -- you need the salts.

I picked up a 3lb container of the powdered Gatorade G2 and have been drinking that since lunch. If I am not better by the end of the week I will go see the doctor.
I have to admit, salt is something I probably never have enough of because I NEVER add salt to anything. I know lots of foods come with salt but I have not "added" salt to anything in probably 20 years.
I am just hoping I am not deprived of anything else. I just cant believe how much I am peeling. I have never peeled like this ever in my life. I look like a posterboy for psoriasis lol
