Cols,OH. It sucks.
I've been cutting for about a month on approx 2000cal daily. I ended the cut last Friday, upped my calories to 3000ish and have since packed on 9lb in 6days! WTF!!?

It can't be body fat.

Could it be becuase I'd depleted my body's glucose levels during the cut, and now I'm all carbed back up again my muscles are loaded with glycogen, causing the weight?

I can't believe it's just water. There's no reason I would've been progressively dehydrated while cutting.

That would be my guess.

I dropped from 175 to 168, little by little, over four weeks. I always took in plenty of sodium and drank a gallon or more of water. The third row of my abs made their glorious, defined appearance and I dropped the cut, upping my Kcal to around 3000.

I've continued the sodium intake. I've maintained my water intake. All I did was up the carbs (from approx 1g per 1lb of me to 2g per 1lb of me). Why would that cause 9lb of water retention!? There's no visible difference that I can see in the mirror.

Some may be water but I'm still thinking that some must be glucose/glycogen. I'm surprised the weight gain is so high. I've gained back every pound I lost over the past month, plus added 2lb.

I'm definitely more ripped looking in the mirror (shoulders striated, abs defined...) than I was a month ago.

The scale does some surprising stuff.

And why is this a problem?

And why is this a problem?

Have you read this thread!? Could you point out where it says I'm concerned about being striated!? I don't see that anywhere.

The question is... WTF could cause a 9lb weight gain in 6 days after stopping a 1mo cut.

Aditionally...
If it's water, why would I suddenly hold 9lb of water just because I've upped my carbs?
If it's glucose/glycogen, is the scale basically useless in determining if I'm actually losing fat on a cut (i.e. becuase it could just depleted glucose levels causing lowered weight)?

I know I can gain a couple of pounds from a one-day refeed (while cutting). But 9lb in 6days!!? :wtf: How did I gain 2lb from a 1mo cut?

dont be a fucking dickhead

dont be a fucking dickhead

Beat me to it.

Yeah Big G, TT is only trying to help by making sure that you're focused on the important stuff. Which, most often, it not the scale.

dont be a fucking dickhead

Good grief! Like "And why is this a problem?" was an answer to my fucking question!

I was asking a question specifically about weight! I don't typically gain 10lb in a week, so I thought I'd ask. Maybe I'd learn something (although apparently not!).

Forget I fucking said anything. This place is stupid sometimes, I swear.

damn, your a whiney little bitch. seriously wtf.

people posted it, its WATER WEIGHT. you were on low carb, when you carb up, your replenish muscle glycogen, regain water and become 'fuller' looking. thats it, its not magic. sounds like you did a good cut, lost some overall bf% and then carbed up.

So many wish they had your problem.

Because Carbs have a strong affinity to water.

I think for every 33g of glycogen you can expect 66g of water.

yea.

i read a little on glycogen, and apparently it can make up about 8% of weight in an adult. so if you were low carbing, then ate a bunch of carbs.. therefor increasing glycogen stores.. the 9lbs you gaind seems very plausible

Its supercompensation. Like what marathoners do before a race. Deplete carbs/glycogen then the night before they will carb up and store tons of glycogen and water (I forgot the exact number but i believe your body stores around 3g H20/g of glycogen). The reason you so drastically put on weight is probably because you doubled your carb intake and added 1/3 more kcals to your diet in 1 week.

ok, i took something out of context. the 8% is in the liver only

Cool. OK. Thanks.

Sorry about whining too. I quit smoking cold-turkey last Thursday and everything's been getting on my nerves ever since. :wits:

It's day 10 now. Beginning to feel a bit better, but still can't stop snacking on anything and everything in sight! Hence, end cut & carb up!

Aside form the obvious water gain....why the hell would you go from dieting and eating 2000 calories and then just ramp it up to 3000 calories (a 1000 calorie difference) in such a short period of time??? Ease back into eating higher calories.

I love this thread, explains many things I earlier could not comprehend.
