Federal Government Breaks Dr. Haggard's Will

Dr. Jesse Haggard the physician from Revolution Medicine pleaded guilty to trafficking in Anabolic Steroids and was sentenced to one year and one day in prison. His term may be commuted to a half-way house instead of prison. Dr. Haggard appeared on one of my shows and he was also subject of discussion in a subsequent show with legal mind J. Clark Baird. I was aware of Dr. Haggard's loss of will to fight the Federal Government. There was a turning point in his position where I learned he was going to plead guilty because the Federal Government did what It does best in these situations - kept him isolated from his family, dragged their feet and probably spent millions of dollars to beat this otherwise well meaning physician into the ground. He missed his wife and children and wanted this to come to an end and like many who face the heavy hand of our corrupted Uncle Sam, decided that pleading guilty - even if one doesn't believe they are truly guilty of a crime - was the inevitable end to a terrible situation.

This article (Defendant in Mobile steroids case tearfully pleads for freedom | al.com) reference "made radio appearances" . To my knowledge, mine was the only show he did while on teh run in Costa Rico. Dr. Haggard's only sin was an association with a pharmacy that was operating illegally that filled his clients prescriptions.

I feel bad for Dr. Haggard. He was practicing medicine in a way that many physicians practice medicine. Its common for physicians to prescribe drugs in an "off label" manor and they don't get arrested. This is more of the anti-anabolic steroid witch hunt. The idea that the Federal Government uses our tax dollars to prosecute physicians that prescribe hormones to their male patients - regardless if they are for appearance enhancing effects - is a betrayal of public trust.
