I take about 10-12 caps of fish oil a day, 2 caps at every meal........ should I add flax to the equation?

are there any benefits of one over the other?

should I add an omega 6 EFA to the mix.... say epo or borage oil as well?

thanx, billy

:hmmm: Why so many? You REALLY don't need that many fish oil capsules... And some studies suggest that too many omega-3 fats can interfer with your insulin sensitivity...

But I would not use flax - you can usually get enough omega-6 fats from your daily diet (grains, seeds, nuts, meats, eggs etc)... So instead of replacing them with flax capsules why not use real food sources of mono-unsaturated fats? These are actually the fats that should be at the highest % in your diet. Things like avocado, olive oil etc etc...

And fish oils are much better - they are actually a source of EPA and DHA - which are the two important omega-3 fats you need...

The reason why I take so many fish caps is because I have a very low fat diet and I use the fish, flax and O 6's to help supplement my fat intake...

what would be a good amount of fish oil take daily and when? I dont use flax caps, I use the pure ground flax seeds............ thanx

Don't supplement - EAT REAL FOOD!! :p 6-8g fish oils a day is all that is needed. And just split it into 2 or 3 doses taken at a few meals.

And don't use flax as your only other fat source, as I said, you need to make sure you are getting those mono fats.

50-55% mono (avocado, olive oil et etc)
30-35% poly (6-8g fish oils + the rest from flax, seeds, grains etc)
10 (up to 15 if you must)% saturated
